You're right, and I was going to add something to that effect, but it's only a minor part of my annoyance with them, which is based on numerous episodes of crappy customer service on the part of UPS.
Anyway, I'll just be patient and enjoy my weekend.

Picked one up today from London Drugs.
We had an iPad 1 for the past few years , so this is a noticeable jump in speed for us.
One option I'm loving...iPad mirroring (which was available on iPAD 2 as well). We haven't had cable for a number of years...most of our T.V watching is in the form of OTA, netflix (ATV) and NHL Centre ice (ATV).
One thing I have missed since our "cable days" is a PVR for OTA. Now, I just run a show from the CTV (or some other) app and display it on my TV....Its kind of like having a PVR now for OTA TV.

Oh yeah, it doesn't make it any better for you, and it certainly isn't the pinnacle of customer service, that's for sure.
It's worth the wait though, I can assure you (not that that makes it any better)

My wife just brought one home, going to have to take her out for a nice steak dinner, but damn the retina display is stunning.

Just picked up a 32GB iPad 3 for my mom from the store. I don't know why you guys are all fussing over UPS and going nuts waiting for delivery. I'm not a big fan. That's no surprise. The UI is ugly and boring and outdated and clumsy and restrictive but that's the same with every iOS device. Right now, I can't really find much content that makes full and proper use of the full resolution of the Retina Display so I honestly can't tell why people are gushing over it. High resolution and pixel density just serves to make all your old stuff look bad. The good part is that I now get to inherit her old Android tablet that I rooted and put Cyanogen mod on and now if she calls me to ask how to use her iPad, I can just send to the Genius Bar.
That said, the iPad 3 will probably start popularizing more 2048 x 1536 artwork, photos, etc. which is good for everyone who is starved of high resolution content on any device.

Well, it has just been 1 day since it was released. If I remember correctly, it took a while before content/apps really made use of the retina display on the iphone - now it's pretty much standard. Given the very large ecosystem and the large amounts of money to made, there should be pretty good confidence that development will continue in earnest.
And to be fair, some people simply can't tell the difference between the iPad 2 and the "new iPad" screens. I have come across one person so far.

I call BS on anyone who claims they can't tell the difference between the iPad 2 and new iPad displays.

The app store has a whole section dedicated to apps that have been updated to use the retina display.
The high dpi display definitely makes stuff that's not made for it look bad, but it's weird to consider that a negative. You could apply the same logic to high definition tv or bluray movies.

Some people are militantly beholden to their standard definition TV/channels. Heck, I still know somebody that has a working VCR hooked up. To each their own I guess.

It's a ridiculously incomplete list, for what its worth - there are tons more apps that are Retina ready that aren't listed there.

Really? You couldn't even try out the native apps to form and share an opinion on the display technology, irrespective of your opinion of the OS and its GUI?
Expected more.

This probably merits its own thread - but how much are people paying for LTE?
I have a 3GS iPhone that I don't plan on upgrading until there is the iPhone 5 which all rumours point to supporting LTE. Can I still get an LTE plan on the phone and share it with the 2 iPads in the house?

I don't think Rogers has LTE in Calgary, do they? My Telus unit says 3G here in Evanston and LTE in the downtown core where they LTE coverage.

I think this is one of the biggest falsehoods about iOS. Jail breaking which is very similar to rooting, allows you to basically do the same things on each device. Heck you can even reskin it if you don't like the UI. Don't like the lock screen, get LockInfo, and you can even make it look and act like a HTC device. Need file folder access? Get iFile in Cydia. I really would like to hear what a jail broken iPad is so bad at compared to any Android tablet.
Yes, there is no jailbreak yet for iPad 3, but proof of concept is on you tube from MucleNerd. There should be a jail break very soon for a device that just came out Friday.
Retina is no big deal because few apps make use of it? Right now, the most popular app on all devices uses it, a web browser. The other stock apps are upgraded as well, and many more are on the app store. Discounting retina because it makes old apps look bad is really a poor cheap shot. It is progress, and is making tablets better to work with. There really is zero downside to Retina, except a few slightly blurry apps for a few months. Now let's compare that to the fragmentation nightmare that is Android.
Finally, the vailed reference that anyone that uses iOS is green in the world of computing. This is false. I have no idea why there is a device that is so much harder to use, more kludgy, still needs to be rooted, yet is hailed as a device for people in the know. I have a comp sci degree, been an app dev, now I help design enterprise software integrations. Yet I use an iPad. Why? Because my idea of using a tablet is to quickly gain information, not fiddle with hacking a proper email/music app into the system on my Saturday afternoon. I want something that works, and for me the iPad is it.
I don't think I will like Android, any more than you will like iOS. That is fine, to each his own. I just don't like hearing the same falsehoods thrown out every time Apple takes Android out to the cleaners. Fact is Android in the tablet space is behind even further now, and they need to address why that is, or it will continue to be a niche product that only some of the tech savey prefer.

It's not even that the Android tablets themselves are behind, because hardware wise, other than the screen (and LTE I guess in a lot of cases, and battery life in many other cases, but I digress) it's that the vast majority of Android users aren't even within one revision of the current OS:
http://developer.android.com/resourc...-versions.html
So H&L takes a veiled shot at users like his Mom, who don't need support or can be sent away to the Genius Bar because she's been handed the "outdated", "boring", and "restricted" iOS device, yet ironically, his Mom is now using more current software, on hardware with features not yet available on Android (the display) than the vast, vast majority of Android users.
I smile at the whole lack of content comment - every text focused app from email to browsing to ebooks is Retina optimized, photos look fantastic, and it will do 1080p movie playback. I'm not sure what content H&L figures Retina doesn't benefit.
