He could just stick with 47 and make it his own, which would be kind of cool as well.
He scored his first NHL goal wearing that number. He seems to have very much inspired the fan-base wearing that number. So logic dicatates that 47 is here to stay.
I am beyond impressed with Baertschi this season! I was hoping when he was called up that he would not be a liability in the Defensive zone and maybe get a nice assist or two. Wow has he surprised me. I'm excited to watch this guy for years to come!
Earlier this season, Portland made their biennial visit to Calgary to play the Hitmen, and I thought about going, but it turned out that Baertschi was injured and wasn't going to play, so I didn't go to the game.
Then, the World Juniors came to town, and I thought about going to one of the Swiss games, but Baertschi got injured, so I didn't go to any of the games.
It turns out, all I had to do was wait and I'd get to see him play (at least) three games, and score (at least) two goals at the Saddledome this year.
A Winterhawks-Hitmen WHL Final sure would be interesting.

Our best chance of what? Making the playoffs and getting crushed in the 1st round?
I understand a few wins can create optimism, but we're still in 10th place right now. Lets not get carried away, send Sven down and let him run show in the WHL playoffs.
Are you stupid? Run show in the WHL playoffs? THIS (the team that drafted him, needs him right now.) We have a handfull of young guys, who arent point/10 games played scorers and you want to "save his eligibility" for another year, when the only time of the season that matters is now til and including playoffs? On a team that lacks scoring / but has elite goaltending...wow.
I guess posters like yourself are bi-products of where this team is talented youth wise, but this team needs him as they need his scoring punch. As for the 50 Contracts, pin that on Feaster then, If I had known 50 contracts makes Sven inelgible to stay, It should be easy math to never go above 49 (especially when you actually have a 1st round pick in junior). Ill sleep better now, knowing we got Kolanos to help fill the net for Abby.......
As for Matty's way to get below 50 contracts (put up someone to get claimed) I would vote: Michael Backlund

Now that's just stupid

I think if we can dump a contract we should still send him down. Wouldn't want to burn off a year of the almighty elc. God forbid that us fans just worry about a player helping us win games, something Sven happens to be doing a fantastic job at.
Could the flames buy someone out to kill a contract?
If the contract limit wasn't an issue, could the flames circumvent the burning of a year on the ELC by signing a contract that is one year longer (than whatever) assuming svens camp agrees? I don't know how these work anyway...
From what Brent said on that video, the team can wait until the player is up to game condition even though he is ready for full contact practice. Some of these guys have been out for a long time and their conditioning and timing could be way off. To put them back in when their conditioning isn't good would be asking for another injury. I imagine if it starts going into weeks, the league would investigate.
Given the number of emergency recalls we have going, I think it can safely be assumed that the league is in contact with the Flames on our injuries. Not an investigation, but simply keeping tabs on the recovery time of the players.
