I think we need to clarify what detractors and supporters are hating/loving.
I love the bridge, but I hated the process that was used.
The bridge on its own; apart from the all the controversy of how it came to be, can be a great conversation piece. It's as much a work of art as it is a piece of infrastructure, so opinions on its design will be varied and lead to great dialog and debate, and the city will be better for it.

Ok, I'll put it out there, I'm not in love with the bridge look, it doesn't do anything to iinspire me at all
I hated the process that took place to get it built.

You've put that out there several times though.
I don't know if it's suppose to "inspire" one either.

My face is a bum!

Where would be the best place to take a photograph, posing in such a manner that this bridge looks like ones 3/4 stiff, heavy, sagging member?

To me it's a symbol of arrogance and everything wrong with city hall;
-Majority of people don't want it and don't think it's necessary? Screw them. They don't know what's good for the city, we do.
-Design Contest? LOL We are city hall we can do whatever we want. Rules for for peasants and sheep.
-Druh this slick bridge is going to be good for your community. Sure wish I had properties to in that area as it seems like a lot of money is being put into sprucing it up. Just remember when we put my little pet project on the table for my Ward that you will return the support wink wink.
-The Spanish made bridge is a POS and it looks like it's in need of repairs. We are behind already! Just get the repairs done and we will fight it out with the Spanish company to recoup costs. In the mean time tell the peasants that the city will not foot the bill for this even if that's bending the truth.
-Transparacy? What? The true cost of this bridge will never be known by the peasants. They don't understand what's good for them and that cities like Calgary have to pay to play.
I will always hate what this bridge symbolizes.

Just an aside, the majority of Calgarians dont need to want the bridge, it was partly built as a counter to Suburb X gets their infrastructure dollars so Sunnyside/Kensington/Eae Claire/Hillhurst etc gets theres. I dont care about an overpass in McKenzie Towne but I dont need to, they get their money and my community gets ours.
The cost and time delay is crazyness, no one can debate that.
The BS hippy garbage nature of the invitation is classic, if it is in fact the "Peace" bridge there should be some sort of celebration to Canadian Peace keepers, not Canadian weed smokers when it opens.

Well you answered my question, you hate the process that led to this bridge (no different than I).
What do you actually think of the bridge itself?

I wasn't blasting you or anyone. You have a right to be upset if you want. I'm just saying that it's there, it's going to stay, we're not going to get your $25 million in taxpayer money back, so just enjoy it for what it is and consider it a legacy of bad decisions in the past.
Dwelling on decisions that were made 2-3 years ago is sort of redundant to me, but that's just my opinion on the matter. Time to move forward with the next bits of infrastructure development.

I'll reserve full judgement until I walk it but driving by it a couple times a week to me it looks a little excessive like something you would expect to see in Dubai. You can make a fancy bridge without making it look like a stripped centipede. IMO it just doesn't blend in with the downtown or Memorial Drive.

Why do you think it should blend in? Isn't it nice to have structures that can stand out and not just melt into the background?

It would have to be pre-cast concrete to blend in with most of the city.

I finally saw this bridge for the first time on the weekend.
Looks like a large chinese finger trap
I would have rather seen a scaled down version of the centre st bridge, lions and all.
