Default Rangers make a deal

Today the Rangers sent C Brendan Morrison & Depth Dman Shane Hnidy to the Sabres for C Robert Lang and defense prospect Mike Egener.

Rangers GM was quoted saying "in the last 8 games or so our second line was letting in most of the goals against. Morrison was the Center on that line and his Plus / Minus Rating is at -12. Plus he was really struggling on the PowerPlay. With Robert's rating at +21 we are hoping this will help our second line keep the goal against at a much lower number"

Looooob's take:

This deal was done at our suggestion. The Rangers get the higher ranked, more productive player this year in Robert Lang. a silly move perhaps as they are battling us for playoff position. Lang couldn't beat out Prospal for our top C job, and we decided we didn't want to pay 7.5 M for a guy on our 2nd line. Morrison is struggling, but long term we hope he'll be ok. We think up front we aren't much weaker for this year, and look forward to going into next year with Prospal, Rolston, Morrow, Morrison, Fedotenko and Lombardi all signed relatively affordably as our top 6 forwards.

Besides we think its cute that we can now play Brendan Morrow and Brendan Morrison as 2/3 of our 2nd line

on D, Hnidy helps with depth a little. A few weeks ago we had only 2 dmen with DF ratings over 69, now we have 5--that should help with the playoff push.

Also this move frees up a tiny amount of cash. enough to allow us to add one more body for the playoff run

The Habs sincerely hope all players involved cause a mass disturbance on their new clubs causing a free fall that elliminates both clubs from the playoffs, allowing the Habs to slip into the playoffs.

On another note, good deal, it makes the stretch run even more interesting.

After hearing the Sabres Press Conference. Rangers GM finally admitted that he actually did no work at all on this deal.

"I received a fax, looked at it for 5 seconds and though sure why not"

As for the Habs comment.... crap if trades hurt teams performance the Panthers, Wild, Penguins and Ranger would be in last place. As between these clubs we have had almost every player in the league..........

The last thing the Rangers GM said was "Crap I like to trade its been awhile so I was hoping something would happen sooner or later"

Beware of shaking the chemistry...

The Isles were one of the hottest teams in mid-December before messing with the chemistry and now find themselves in 9th spot...

...but then again, I don't exactly know what I'm really doing either...

Well, from the Devils GM's perspective the Sabres and Rangers had been both going along quite well. In fact the Devils GM is of the opinion that the Rangers had been playing their best hockey that he'd ever seen as the team has risen from the outside of the playoffs to being a serious contender for home ice in the first round. Perhaps that conincides with the Rangers having found some chemistry and not messing with it too much!

Still teams can always improve. From the first post Morrison was struggling with his +/- on the second line and Hnidy was a spare part. So this trade should technically make the Rangers better on paper....Of course I guess we have to see if the SIM likes the taste of this Rangers team or not. And who can blame the Sabres for wanting more depth, afterall their top player packed it in at midseason due to retirement....Than again so did the Rangers come to think of it. Eery parallels betweent these two teams..

The habs comment was strictly a wish. I never said trades hurt teams, I think if you look at my roster you'll see I've acquired every player (other than Davidson) via a trade. I simply hope THIS trade hurts the chemistry of both the Sabres and the Rangers. If both teams fail to make the playoffs, the Habs would be in the playoffs. Thats all.
BTW I also said "good trade" as I see it as an equal deal between GMs that got what they wanted.

The Ranger have been a weird team all year but one thing remained the same they have had a playoff spot all year. Hopefully my streak of never missing the playoff continues..........
