So long as he at least wears it game 1 next season, me too.
I have a #24 Iginla and absolutely love it. I just hope that he at least wears #47 for a year.

Yes, this. Not only is the 'kickup' jersey amazing in an early 90s way... but the #24 Iginla is awesome. I can't tell you how many people have chuckled and pointed out he wears #12.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned somewhere else, but if the Flames do make the playoffs and the Winterhawks are done, can Sven play for the Flames in the playoffs.
I know there is the 50 contract issue, but does that only apply to the regular season?

Probably thought he was ahead of the curve... before someone pointed out that Smith exists, and has re-signed.

What really pisses me off is how the Preds can bring back Radulov but we can't bring Baertschi with us for the remainder of the season.

Its not the NHL's fault the Flames are at 50 contracts.

Kind of like when a cop puts on his lights just to get threw a red light and you can't?
Rules are rules, the flames wanted him back to portland...it's their fault they can't keep him.

It's not a blame thing; when you assign a player to junior, you don't spend a lot of time planning for his emergency recall, excellent play late in the season, and running the risk of burning a year on his deal. After he gets sent back, 99.99999% of the time he has nothing to do with the team until the following year.

Baertschi has one of the Flames 50 contracts which is what is allowing him to play here right now. Guys like Reinhart and Ferland could also be used as emergency recall while Joey Leach and Tyler Wotherspoon could not.
And yes, when Portland is done he can play here (or Abby) for whatever games may remain.

Baertschi is not one the Flames' 50 contracts. Calgary has 54 players signed. Four of them, Baertsci, Reinhart, Ferland and Elson, are signed to ELCs but playing in junior. There is a slide rule that states these contracts do not count until the player turns pro.

So, how many games left until we have to send him down regardless of injuries as far as burning up a year on his ELC?

Being at 50 contracts is meaningless in this case as the Flames weren't going to burn a year of his ELC regardless. His max is nine games.
Though, thanks to Glencross being a bonehead, Baertschi's stay likely has been extended for another game or two. Scoreface being suspended creates another emergency situation. If nobody else comes back healthy for tomorrow, expect to see Kolanos back up. Even if someone does, the Swiss Svensation gets another game in all probability.

If one more player returns from injury, he has to be sent down.
As for your orginal question...........he can only play a max of 10 games or he loses a year on his contract.
I would think he is sent down before the next game (Jackman and Bouma are getting close I believe).
Not sure what happens if and when Glencross is suspended. Will that count and allow the Flames to keep him around....

Has to be his new nick name. I wanna see this kid in the shoot out, could be like the "datsykian deke" but call it a "svensational move" or something.

6. If he plays 7, he'll start up his first year on his ELC.

Flames rookie enjoys living NHL fairy tale
Quote:
“I’d like not to have to send him back to Portland,” Calgary Flames head coach Brent Sutter said Tuesday night. “But unfortunately, the rules are the rules.”
|
Quote:
“That was crazy tonight,” a grinning Baertschi said in the jubilant Flames dressing room. “Just awesome, the crowd and everything. When I scored the goal in Minnesota, it was just quiet. Nobody was cheering. Scoring a goal down here, it’s just so special.
“I really like the fire by the Jumbotron up there. That’s really exciting.”
|
Quote:
“He’s been awesome,” said centre Matt Stajan. “There’s no other way to put it. You could tell, since he scored the first goal, that he’s really come on. Then he scored that second goal today.
“Man, he was flying out there in the second half of the game. He was making plays. He’s in on the forecheck. You know, he’s a smart player with patience. I think we’ve got a special player coming up in the system, and we’re seeing it first-hand right now.”

It does. An emergency situation exists when the team cannot otherwise field a roster of 2 goalies, 6 defencemen and 12 forwards. Assuming we don't get anyone else back for tomorrow, losing Glencross to suspension would create a new emergency.

So once the Winterhawks finish their season, can we call him up? And when is that, doesn't the WHL season start earlier than the NHL? And if he plays games in the playoffs do they count agains this ELC? So many questions!?!

As soon as Portland's season is over, Baertschi is free to join the Flames - or the Heat. The WHL regular season ends this weekend, and the playoffs start late next week. Portland is one of the top teams in their conference, however, and the bottom playoff contenters are absolutely terrible. There is virtually no chance the Winterhawks fail to reach the second round, and I'd even be surprised if they didn't get to the third. The latest he could go is mid May, if they win the Ed Chynoweth Cup and advance to the Memorial Cup.
I am reasonably certain playoff games don't count against his ELC, so if he returns then, he should be in the clear.

You'd think the Hitmen would have score a few on Portland.... or do they not use the fire at the hitmen games?
