Also have to imagine he was extremely nervous last night.

As he gets more games in and gets comfortable, he'll get better. No worries, no rush.

He looked about as good as you could expect last night. I noticed he fell a lot though? 4-5 times off the top of my head.

Just needs to build more strength...playing against guys who outweigh you by 30-40lbs makes it pretty easy to be knocked down.
It's why guys like St.Louis have legs as thick as most peoples' torsos.

I enjoyed watching him last night. He's a shark for the net. What I liked in the third when he was on a 2 on 2 with Iggy he didn't try to force a pass to him, he took it hard to the net, and created a scoring chance. He tried to make stuff happen when he had the puck, use his creativity, just so happens that NHL d close in a little faster then WHL d. But he seems to me that he is someone that adapts quick.

And being at the game last night, the kid is fast. And I wasn't even mad when he took the penatly, it showed me that the kid doesn't give up, and he even stood there and took a couple shots. He's an aggressive player.

He's a special player, and he loves hockey and is excited to play. And he loves playing and being a part of the Calgary Flames, he reminds me a lot of Cammy in that sense, and it's something that this team needs more of going forward.

How selfish of the Flames 1st PP unit not to let the others play!

Last time I checked, I never stated that no other Flames draft picks have had good careers.

A couple notes on Sven from Elliotte Friedman's 30 Thought today:

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/opin...-thoughts.html

Quote:
6. Pretty impressed with Sven Bartschi, even though he was probably shaking with nerves. Mike Johnston, who coaches him at WHL Portland, says Bartschi's practice habits remind him of Paul Kariya's. "[Sven] is always working hard; you can see how much he loves the game," Johnston said. "I'll leave the ice and he'll still be out there another 30-40 minutes."

7. What does he work on the most? "He'll get an assistant coach to throw passes at him while he's going with speed in the neutral zone," Johnston replied. "He'll take them on his skates and transfer to his stick, or try to receive it with one hand...You never see him fumble a pass." Johnston believes receiving passes is a hugely critical skill in the NHL, and Bartschi's worked hard to master it.

Rookie living hockey dream

Quote:
He’s got a souvenir puck from his first NHL goal, and he’s keeping the stick, too.

“It was crazy (Sunday) night,” Baertschi said after scoring his first in Minnesota against the Wild.

“There were a bunch of text messages on my phone. The guys celebrated with me.
“My family and friends watched the game, so it was really exciting.”

At the development camp, during each of their sessions the zamboni had to chase Baertschi, Markus Granlund and Johnny Gaudreau off the ice.

Above comment... a more engaging Kariya is a great example. I don't see the Datsyuk comparison. I can kind of see Giroux.

NOTE: all a comparison of style, of coarse, not upward potential.

With all the talk of Sven, there are comparable ~2 PPG guys in the WHL.

http://www.whl.ca/stats/show

What about this guy?
http://www.whl.ca/roster/show/id/959

66GP 57G 72A 129P
Brendan Shinnimin? An overager, was he undrafted? Looks like the Coyotes just signed him.

Then there's this guy whom I am assuming was Sven's linemate:

Ty Rattie

I already noticed #7 in the two games he's played, his reception of passes, control of the bouncing puck seemed REALLY solid.

Wow, so probably our three most naturally talented prospects are all extremely hard workers? I like where this is going...

Anyone else getting the feeling that sending this kid down will be a pretty big blow to the team?

Look at his impact in just his first 2 games. Imagine 2+ more.

It's not like they have a choice in the matter.

Losing one of Baertchi's ELC years for playing 1/8th of a season would be a bigger blow to this team long term and is certainly not worth it

No, not at all. Just wondering if there'll be a drop in production. Depending on who comes back to send him down obbiously

Yeah, I don't want them to burn a year... just curious about the impact.
