Default Corey Hart urges city to save historic gas station

http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/Co...207/story.html

Plans to build an LRT station and parking lots where the iconic Eamon’s Bungalow Camp stands along Crowchild Trail has struck a chord with heritage lovers, and also 1980s heartthrob Hart, who filmed a music video on the spot.

How it looks today:

Wow, I never noticed how Calgary/Southern Albertan this video was:

Now to find the sewing sweatshop in Calgary with the hot windswept brunettes! Beside the Regent Gas? Where is that?

Maybe he should write a song about it or something.

Seriously...it's a run down gas station. What the heck else is the city supposed to do with it?

The city plans on keeping at least the sign.

Maybe he even added it to his Facebook status, that will help.

Put up or shut up with this heritage stuff, lots of concern but not a lot of cash contributions.

I live right by there, and I've often thought it'd be a cool building for a cool old school diner.
Of course that would mean someone would have to buck up and take the risk on it, and considering it's cut off from Crowchild, I'm sure it would be a miserable failure.
Oh well, too bad.

Huh? Where is Rosedale Cleaners in Never Surrender? Looks like it was filmed in Toronto.

I think he should have a benefit concert to raise money for saving the gas station.

As seen below, the sign will be creatively saved and adapted. It would be cool to see the garage incorporated somehow, maybe as a substation?

Actually I'm a fan of any old, potentially dirty gas stations being taken down (not that I have any idea that this one would be).

Does anyone remember the old Turbo on 19th St and Northmount Dr NW? It's since disappeared, but I know way too many people that have had cancer and lived in that area. A little bit of conspiracy here I know.. apparently Bowness has a station in a similar state right now.

It's not really the gas stations that are dirty, but rather the ground that the gas stations were on.

And pretty much every one has contaminated the soil.

Can the Station be renamed Eamon's Camp station instead of Tuscany?

Yes true, but if they're using old tanks that's how the leaks get out of hand. Sorry don't mean to hijack this beautiful Cory Hart thread

That would be a pretty useless name. I'm big on transit stops giving people at least half a clue of where they are.

As someone who has travelled portions of historic Route 66, it saddens me that this city once again shows very little interest in preserving our past. Perhaps I'm just a nostalgic old fart, but I wish we as a society would preserve a few more of these unique structures. Just grabbing the sign and sticking it on an LRT station doesn't do much for me, and the history of where it came from will be lost on most people within 10 years.

If they go through with the plan as shown above I think they're doing a phenomenal job of preserving the past. Keeping the entire structure is simply impractical, utilizing the most redeeming portion of it in a functional manner is an incredibly smart and progressive way to both preserve the past and make needed progress.

I'm not sure what else you would have them do, put yellow tape around it and let the structure continue to decay?
