Where to buy medical travel insurance?
I'm looking into buying medical insurance for a trip im booking online but don't see an option to buy medical insurance.
Is there a place I can go buy it without purchasing a ticket from them?

I'm not sure about this but I see a lot of travel insurance at Superstores for various lengths of time... not sure what the coverage or how good the coverage is, but I guess you could look into that.

When I lived in a bordertown, I was able to go to regular insurance broker and buy a one year travel insurance policy that was good in the U.S for less than any travel agent selling travel insurance.

CAA has pretty comprehensive coverage. I have found they are usually relatively cheap as well.
It's where I always get mine, and I'm not a member.

Ok so I went to pay and it offered me medical insurance. Is $10,000 maximum enough? Seems kind of low to me.

That seems very low. Most of the travel medical insurance I've seen has unlimited coverage for the medical costs, but has limits on other things like extra hotel costs for your travel companion and flight re-booking fees.
I think most places will sell you travel medical insurance anytime before you leave, and regardless of whether or not you booked the trip with them.
I have travel medical included with my health insurance from work, so I haven't needed to buy it separately in years, but when I did buy it, I always went to AMA regardless of whether or not I booked my travel with AMA. You can either buy on a per-trip basis or buy for all trips you take in a year.

check the medical coverage offered thru your employers group plan - it is usually sufficient.

RBC Insurance. Quick and cheap, you can buy it online too.
For our family coverage we got 1 year of coverage for $160 for traveling up to two weeks, unlimited medical coverage with trip interruption and all the bells and whistles. For the 1 trip up to two weeks it was $120, so I figured why not buck up for year for an extra $40?

You could use my site www.m3financial.com and click the link to buy through Manulife. $5 Million coverage and a host of other benefits included.

I highly highly recommend ' travel underwriters' I'm sure you are a healthy guy and all, but because of some preexisting conditions I had to really research every single insurance plan, this one is by far the least restrictive, the last thing you need is some insurance company failing to pay a medical bill because of some random exclusion in the policy...
The most important thing is to read all the fine print, and make the decision based on that, and how it lines up with your situation...
^this one has a 5,000,000 limit, premiums were cheap.
You shouldn't have a limit anywhere less than 2 million.

Which can be a problem, especially with policies from Manulife, at least according to a sensational episode of CBC's marketplace that played this weekend...

Oh really? What was the issue with it? I always use these policies and have never had an issue (I've never claimed but have known of quite a few for clients and friends without issue).

This site is helpful : http://www.travelinsurancequotes.ca/
We have travel medical with Blue Cross but ours doesn't cover for trip cancellation or trip interruption or lost baggage etc. For that likely your best option is the RBC Preferred VISA card or an American Express Gold rewards card. I have copies of these policy wordings and they are quite comprehensive. Make sure you pay for the entire trip with the card if you are hoping to get coverage from the card as the way it is worded seems to indicate that you would have to purchase the entire trip amount with the card for coverage to respond and not just the deposit etc. Take as much as you can from different sources and don't get tripped up
