It is also a situation where you have a kid who's probably never played in a league with touch icing trying to finish the play.
When I look at that play, I see two things: A 19-year-old kid willing to go into the corners, and a league that needs to go to no-touch icing.

In his post game interview he mentioned that he had never played with touch icing and he was a little lost at the time and didn't quite understand at first why the whistle was blown. That's what the smirk was for

Important to note that Sven is not used to sitting and only playing 2 minutes per period. It would be really hard to get in a groove if you used to playing a lot then suddenly you have 3 35 second shifts per period

Seems like a lot of us are afraid to have a successful prospect. Lots of caution and AHL talk.
It is perfectly reasonable to not be shocked if this kid makes the team out of camp next year and never looks back. It happens for other organizations. It could happen for Calgary too.

I know. I just think it is ok to acknowledge that this one could be different.

Only 33 games, but yeah, the point is that Baertschi may do well to spend a little time in Abbotsford. Much depends on how the roster shapes up over the summer.

Yes, he spent 33 games in the AHL his first year pro. He put up 34 points in 33 games. He then put up 27 points in 42 games with the Flyers.

How cool would it be to see a Flames prospect have a really good camp?

Well he is already 181 pounds on a 5'10" frame... I'm not sure how much more you want him to fill out. I would think ideal playing weight at 5'10" is about 180 to 190 lbs.
Plus, you don't want him to lose that ridiculous speed we saw last night.
I honestly predict he makes the opening lineup next year since the Flames already said they barely sent him down this year.
Also, I think these few NHL games will be GREAT for him to see exactly what the game is like on the ice up here and what he needs to do over the summer to become a full-time top six NHLer.
Hopefully when he goes back to Portland he can help push them deep into the playoffs.

lol?
The kid can keep up with NHLers, but he's is by no means a burner. He going to have to work on getting faster, but hopefully that comes as he gets stronger.

I thought he played as well as should have been expected.
I also thought that at times he looked like a boy playing with men.
Really liked how he took the puck to the net in that one sequence in the first.

I agree with the every one here he needs to spend some time in the AHL and get his feet wet with stronger players and in the off season spend his summer training with Roberts it worked for guys like Skinner, Stamkos ect....

Neither of Skinner or Stamkos played a single game in the AHL.

Yeah, he almost beat out an icing call twice and had farther to skate the defensman he was racing with.
His wheels look fine. I honestly don't think he should change anything for tomorrow. One thing I noticed, he sure knows how to get into open ice.
