Exactly, why make it easy!

Things like streamers, confetti, brown leather jackets, should be thrown on the ice.. err playing field. Why make it easy!!

how do I say this without getting crapped on- A good number of the fans at Toronto FC games, from my observations and from common knowledge, originate from countries where football is by far the biggest sport and this behaviour to opposing teams is more acceptable.

Not that shocking, and I don't know why you would get crapped on.. just listen to the accents in the video... British.

well, to say only immigrants go to Toronto FC games seemed a little blunt... Europeans, Africans, and South Americans make the franchise work in Toronto.

What does hockey have to do with this? Aren't we talking about a TFC game?

Why is it acceptable to throw things on the playing surface in one sport, and not the other?

I don't know, it just is.

I guess it would be because they can play over the streamers or kick them away. On the ice it would be a definite hazard. And it isn't like it is happening in the 18yd box. It is only on corners and sometimes goal kicks. It isn't interfering with live play.

Kind of a shame, really. It's been a long time since the people of Toronto had something to cheer about. Wasn't there two seperate (police escorted) parades of fans to the stadium through the streets? And it is cool to see the place all decked out in red. Unfortunate color, but that's a lot of soccer jerseys to sell in the centre of the hockey universe.

Because the fans aren't playing the game, they're watching it. I'm all for the booing and taunting but fans shouldn't have any physical involvement in the on field play in any sport. I pay to see top level athletes compete, not to see some turd shine a green laser in kipper's eyes, throw a jacket at Iggy's feet, or throw streamers at Beckhams feet.

Not really, they're all examples of fans becoming physically involved in the game, which is, or should be unnacceptable.

Yet two of them had a direct effect on the game and were dangerous and occurred in a totally different sport. Tennis and golf have different sets of rules for fans altogether. Would you argue how absurd hockey chants are because the norm in tennis and golf is to be quiet during play?

The other involved throwing harmless streamers at the field.

A laser is harmful and could cause serious eye damage. This was done during play. Even if done outside of play it is still dangerous. Even if not done in a sports arena it is dangerous.

The shirt caused Iggy to fall, was dangerous and directly effected the outcome of the game. This was also done during play.

The streamers pose no harm to the player - whether they're thrown at or near the player - and are only thrown during a stoppage in play, specifically on a corner kick. At most the streamers are a distraction to Beckham and piss him off. He's at no risk, gameplay is not directly disrupted. Nearest complaint could be the delay before he kicks but even Beckham learned to just ignore them and kick it right away.

The streamers are nothing even remotely similar to the other two. The closest hockey example is the octopus in Detroit or rats in Florida.

Moreover, is CP the only place where people care about the streamers? As far as I can tell neither the MLS, the Galaxy or Beckham made a big deal of the streamers. Has anyone else in the last 10 or so years that TFC has been doing it complained?

Beckham said after the game that he liked the passion from the fans, the streamers obviously irked him but I agree that they posed no hazard. I thought it was funny more than anything.

I think Beckham was clearly upset by the beer can. What happens to your theory if next time it's full and conects? It would be during play and doing harm.
