I wonder if Apple realizes people are still going to call it the iPad 3 regardless of their intention. Unless they plan on rebranding the iPad next release, this is going to very confusing otherwise.

People will call it the iPad 3rd Generation, similar to when the iPod was updated without giving it a new name.
It does seem silly though, that the "iPad 2" is a step BACKWARD from the "iPad" now, however.

Maybe they expect people to start naming their iPads the same way we distinguish between different releases of the same Mac model, e.g. iMac (mid 2011), MacBook Pro (early 2011)?

Better speaker on the iPad1 as well..I keep telling myself that to keep me content with the device

The iPad 2 box just says iPad, so technically no real change.

I'm paranoid that if I pre-order the new iPad, the people handling the shipping won't be nice to it. They'll be all like throwing it from one truck to another, stacking other heavy things on top if it.
BUT
do they treat the shipments the same from the Apple Store? Probably not because they are mass packaged in huge boxes that you can't harm!
I just ordered a 32gb wifi!

Gack!!! Every time I go to Rogers to renegotiate what I am paying per month they keep telling me that they do not offer the $30/6GB plan any more. And I see it is not listed on their site. And the 6GB LTE is $60!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good lard!!!!
Guess who is getting the Wifi.....
