Default New airport scanning devices, confirmed a complete waste of money by blog.

http://tsaoutofourpants.wordpress.co...body-scanners/

TL;DW: Guy carries large metal object through wave scanners by having the object on his side.

Yeah, the backscatter and milimeter wave scanning devices that were declared worthless by security experts, have now been confirmed useless by a random, concerned citizen, blogger.

Thanks 9/11 security overreaction for wasting all our monies!

It's great to see Brian Setzer do other things with his time.

There was also an episode of Fifth Estate, where they showed an ex-Navy Seal finding easy ways to circumvent security at different airports in Canada using film bags to hide things, and social engineering to gain access to secure areas of the airport.

With regards to body scanners, I agree. I think most people would have no problem with a pat down from some hotness of the opposite sex for security purposes. Why don't they hire lap dancers to do the security screening? They could work just for the tips.

I hope they fix this problem before the terrorists win! I get the guys point, but his over dramatic delivery is hilarious.

Any time I have gone through the back-scatter machine it has been after I passed through the metal detector.

No real issues here, just convert the backscatter machines into back-scratcher machines, providing comfort and relief for itchy skin sufferers before boarding. Everybody wins and the investment isn't lost.

Lobbyists, lobbyists, lobbyists...

The only reason these things are installed at airports right now.

I was wondering that as well. Usually if you set off the metal detector, they will use that wand on you to check you for metal objects. As far as I remember, if you get randomly selected to do a more thorough inspection, you can choose to be patted down, or do this body scanner, but that's usually after you've walked through the metal detector.

You beat me to it. I thought the scanners took a 360 degree picture of you though.. that's why the sensors circle around you.

EDIT: I see there's another kind of scanner being used which just takes a picture from the front and back. I haven't seen these before:

Me wonders if the TSA is putting these videos out themselves in an attempt to entrap people, and give the appearance that the body scanners are more useful than they are.

I mean, a little cosmetics case is one thing, but can you really sew a gun into your pocket and walk around with it? It would probably rip your shirt off.

Very true, lobbyists preying on the culture of fear.

Its for the greater good people, we have to think about the children. Never forget about the children.

Are you serious?
You honestly think that people that otherwise wouldn't, would start carrying a gun through airport security becasue they saw some guy on a blog tell them you can get away with it?

Well...4chan exists, therefore the answer must be: Maybe.

I don't think that's a background, but more of an abyss of nothingness.

I think they would love it if the technology showed some indication of doing what it should be doing. I am not entirely sure though that the people who would seek out this kind of video wouldn't be the ones that would try to get a gun or something onto a plane.

One thing I find unsettling is the focus on aircraft for security rather than the more mundane trains, buses, and ferries that are left virtually unsecured in any way.

Michael Chertoff made some nice coin on those babies....

I read an article awhile back quoting Israeli airport security people and they said the scanners are useless. The Ben Gurion Airport is said to be one of the most secure airports in the world.

It's not truly an abyss of nothingness, as the raw data is there. The x-rays pass through the entire "box" of acquisition, otherwise fat people wouldn't be completely scanned. Seems bizarre to me that this is an issue because it's pretty basic medical imaging technology that's been around for 40 years.
