Was the cow a zombie? I just figured it was in pain from being 1/2 eaten.
The other thing I have seen in a few other zombie movies that bugs me; how easy it is for human skin to be ripped apart? The zombie while struggling with Dale was still able to rip his stomach open. Seems like it would be a little harder to do.

I didn't find Dale annoying (except his facial expressions), I'm sad that he's gone. I guess Rick's the conscience of the group now.
Kind of hope they off Shane sometime soon... or at least have him mute the whole monster-of-his-environment motif they have going for him.

Carls' turn to the darkside seems a bit forced and contrived. Where did this even come from?
|
From the need for the writers of the show to have a reason for Rick (and most of the group) to step back from the breach and re-embrace their humanity. Seeing a child (to say nothing of your child) encourage you to personally end another human beings life is the "wake up call" the shows writers thought they needed to employ. I love this show more and more each week. Most other genre shows taper off in quality storytelling but this show just keeps delivering gold.

Sure looked like it to me. Even had the zombie eyes from what I recall. Sounded like zombie breathing too.
Regarding the easy to rip apart...on the Talking Dead after they went into how that zombie basically had bones for hands (all the flesh ripped off) and would be easy for it to get it's "hooks" so to speak into Dale. But I totally see where you are coming from.

Dale's death made me laugh cause it was so cliche and typical of horror shows.
Wandering off from the group alone, dark and foggy outside, unaware of their surroundings... then BAM! Pwned from behind.

^ Agreed (ken's post), especially since you have to figure that rotting zombie hands wouldn't have real strong fingernails. I suspect the fingernails would peel right off while he was trying to dig his fingers in. On the other hand, so to speak, maybe the flesh just peels away too and you have some nice pointy zombie finger bones to tear into some innards...
....and beaten to the punch by goinalltheway... In my defence I don't watch talking dead.
Eeww...

Interesting that after starting on the cow, he didn't just keep feasting on it, why would he leave and then come back for Dale? The walkers aren't easily scared off, so I don't see why it would have left the cow.

too bad we saw alot of zombie hands when shane was trapped in the bus. and i have to say they were in pretty good condition. Like the makeup artists forgot to 'zombify' them. hahaha

Option 1: Zombie fingers can't break the skin and Dale slightly gets gummed up.
Option 2: Zombie eviscerates Dale leading to grotesque audience enjoyment.
I'd go for option 2 everytime.

i think that the people who complain about the show don't realize this...Zombies are simply a proxy for conflict - a natural disaster sort to speak. It could have been a nuclear war, or wolves in The Grey... the show is about how these characters adjust and are slowly compromised by the world falling apart and what they have to do has consequences on them too.
There is definitely some lazy writing...Dale didn't have to be eviscerated; the zombie could have simply ripped a chunk out his throat and the end result would have been the same.
its a great show, but AMC cheapening out on it has slowed down the momentum...get off the farm already!

I agree... it's time to move away from the farm. That's one of the complaints I have with the show this season.
They need to go back to a city... far more exciting.

Or how about option 3. Zombie gets a good bite on Dale, and now the group (and Dale) have to decide about killing Dale before he turns into a zombie as well.

I think the evisceration was appropriate because the only option the group had was to put him out of his misery, had it been a throat gash they might've tried to save him. I also think it was a deliberate choice by the writers to have Daryl shoot Dale in the end, IMO we'll see his role in the group change from here on out.

I also don't get the hate for Dale. One of the strengths of this excellent show (maybe my favourite program on right now) is the diversity of personalities. You need logical thinkers and impulsive folks, violent people and calmer ones, etc. Dale was a strong character. I'm sorry to see him go.

Wasn't a Dale fan
After Shane punked him I knew he was going down. He had strong opinions but was a blowhard, never backed up his words with actions. My opinion is that Dale's death wakes up Andrea and she is the new conscience of the group. It weakens Shane and provides a counter point that lets Rick stay in the middle.
What I want to know is what happens with Carl as he recognized the walker as the one he was "playing" with. Like father like son. Should have just shot Randall on the fence.
Love that Daryl is playing a larger role. I think he is looking to become Rick's new right hand man and edge Shane out.

For all you Dale fans out there you really need to read the graphic novels.

Darryl is awesome because he is the one that you pick if you want to get something done.
He's not going to rock the boat or play politics, but when you ask him to do something, he's going to deliver.

Every time i see Darryl i can't help but see a red-neck Leonardo Dicrapio.
Great character though.
