For the robo-vacuum, do you find that it does as good a job as you would do? My old roommate had a roomba and it was novel for a while, then I realised that I could do a better job in 5 minutes. I will buy one of these vacuums if you can confirm that it actually cleans as well as you could. Please say it does. I want more robots so badly.

It'll do the job as good as you (your central vac.hand vac) can where it can go. Obviously it's not a direct replacement for hand vacuuming as it can't move couches, chairs, can't do stairs etc... so it can't do as good of a job due to these limitations.
The vac sounds like a small jet engine and judging by the crap it picks up it it performs well. The reason Neato engineers can utilize such a powerful motor is because the vacuum is smart and only does areas once due to the mapping capabilities unlike the roomba which needs to make several random passes in order to ensure it gets everything. Some areas get passed over multiple times and some none.
There is a little pick up/floor clearing prep involved prior to running it (especially if you have kids) but you would have to do it when hand vacuuming as well.
Example of how I utilize and how it saves me time;
Head downstairs and pick up toys... of floor and set base unit and robot down press start and away it goes. While it's vacuuming downstairs it frees me up to do the upstairs prep plus clean kitchen etc... When it's done cleaning downstairs it beeps and heads back to its base to charge. It also tells you if the dirt bin needs emptying.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this vacuum.
