Killing a child isn't just "a mistake."
And everyone 'Thinks' the dog was trying to comfort the child. Nobody knows for sure, terms like 'may have been' and 'seemed like' are being used.

A couple things that bother me (besides the obvious death).
(May of been asked in this thread already)
How did the dog get to the baby before the parents did?
Even if the baby is crying, wouldn't the parents hear it?
When we brought home our newborn baby from the hospital, there was zero time that our Son was alone, even when asleep we were always close by.
How low was the crib? Most cribs or bassinets are quite tall and even large dogs would really need to jump or climb to get to the child.
Were the parents negligent by leaving the infant in a car-seat or something really close to the floor? I don't get it.

Maybe a good time lock, delete and forget the thread.
Heard some rescue's in town are fielding a lot of calls about taking or being surrendered Huskey's from nervous parents... Maybe a good reason to have not put down the dog. Could send the wrong message.

Judging by this thread, there will be a lineup at every animal rescue in town to take these dogs.

LOL, doubt it, I don't recall anyone wanting to adopt the dog, just not wanting it put down.

I've got 2 dogs that are loyal companions who've I've travelled 1000's of miles with by foot, but if this happened to me I would only have 1 dog.

Just like drunk drivers - once they get caught once they always learn their lesson, right?
There's plenty of 40+ year old people out there that have zero intention of having another baby (and are likely biologically incapable of doing so). If the dog is adopted to intelligent owners there's basically no chance that dog is ever near a baby again.

I would think it was their decision.
But yeah pretty gut wrenching.

Exactly why the dog's fate once taken shouldn't have been in the hands of the owners. I'm sure they made their decision so the dog would've harm anyone again, but any realistic scenario where the dog is adopted would've had an negligible chance of the dog being alone with a baby again. It was a decision based on emotion and not reason (and understandably so).
Now you get the unintended consequence of other dogs losing their homes because of it. I'm sure most animal control experts could've seen this coming and should've been the ones making the decisions.

I'm sure the decisions to turn their dogs over were because of the original situation and not the end result.

Because these people believe what happened was partly/wholly the dogs fault... therefore, since you can't kill the parents, you have to re-direct your anger somewhere else..
Most of these people don't look upon dogs as being family members.. they look at them as pets/property to do with as they please. We after all are the higher species and as the higher species some of us feel we have the right to do what we want to the lower orders.... including kill them for whatever reason or no reason whatsoever (if only to make us feel better).

My heart goes out to these people, what a horrible, tragic thing to happen to them. I hope they are able to get the help they need and get past this.

I really don't want to get into this debate but bare facts are that their little baby is dead and the dog killed him.
I think they have a pretty good reason to put the dog down.
