In wintertime here, people always lack enough exercise and Vitamin D.

Yeah if its an ongoing problem look towards firstly, diet, exercise, take note of your moods and energy in a log.

Track your sleep for a month, how long for, did you wake up during sleep, how tired were you when you got up, what times of day are you really struggling.

Sometimes its just as simple as your diet and regular exercise make such huge differences, but if your mood is taking a big hit certainly could be depression.

Symptoms are key though, when, why, how, give the doctor as much info as you can provide and heŽll point you in the right direction, maybe a overnight sleeping test, hopefully not medication to help you sleep, stuff is not a long term solution.

As a sympathy, the best tips I can come up with are:

sleeping well: try and exercise at least a little every night. Don't eat or look at tv/comp screens an hour or two before you want to be asleep.
waking up: chug a glass or water or two as soon as you're up, people seriously dehydrate overnight and it's shocking how many problems dehydration causes (low energy, head aches, concentration, etc.)

Did you just have a kid? Sounds like a lot of similar symptoms I had after I had my kid. Trouble sleeping. Couldn't get things done that I wanted to do like going drinking on Fridays, sleeping in, finishing some video game that I've now forgotten about.

Cheap bus rides in Ecuador always do it for me.

Go running. Exercise and building strength will likely energize you.

I was having the same problem up until about a month ago. I was so worried about it that I went and got blood work and std tests done. Everything was normal. I completely changed my diet (I'm living off stir fry with chicken in it), picked up some Centrum and started working out again using my own modified version of starting strength. I feel 100% back to normal.

Depends who you ask. There was an article in Macleans a while back that said that there is no evidence that people in North America are deficient in Vitamin D. Apparently the idea that we should get at least 1,000UI, or perhaps more, with some people saying you should get up to 5,000UI per day.....is bunk.

Not sure I agree. Vitamin D is extremely important to the human body, and considering most of us spend most of the day inside, its not crazy at all to think that we might be deficient.

Personally speaking here, there are days in the dead of winter where I get 20-30 minutes MAX of sunlight, and that's whatever filters through my car windows on my commute home from work.

Do you work out? Start that as well.
Medication will help by aiding or replacing function lost by the thyroid; but they will not cure you.

Leading cause of hypothyroidism (and for me it was) is Hashimoto's Disease. There is no cure and it can't be reversed.

I will echo.... go to a doctor.

Regarding vitamin D,

I recently read that in the latitudes of Canada, you can stand outside naked all day everyday between the months of October and February and not get an ounce of vitamin D.

Everything I have read states that the full benefits of vitamin D are not completely understood and the recommended dosage is everything from 4-500 UI's to 1000-3000 UI's a day.

Also, Vitamin D isn't quite like Vitamin C where your body uses a certain amount and then pees out what you don't need. Whatever you body needs, it will use and the rest is stored in the liver.

I have also read that the body may not know how to metabolize Vitamin D effectively in pill form, so naturally occurring Vitamin D found in food is better than popping some pills.

I actually havent heard anything about Vitamin D deficiencies being exaggerated, everything I have heard and read is that the full benefits arent completely understood.

My Doc says everyone in Calgary should be taking vitamin D. He either thinks it helps or he has a large amount of money invested in vitamins.
