Seems like he has a great story behind him and that underdog mentality.

Really hope he makes it big with us

At times it's easy to forget that ferland was a Button pick under darryl's regime. Todd did a good job his last darryl draft considering we only had picks from the 3rd to the 7th round. At least one of Darryl's WHL forwards is getting some good pub aside from max.

We need shrewd drafting going forward no matter how this season plays out since I don't think the ownership will support a full out tank team. I like what feaster did last year, but it's going to take some time and some home runs to change this team's trajectory. But how is sven not looking like one along with Jonny be Gaudreau.

I personally called for MacNeil but I thought it was easy Sven was gone by our pick. But it looks like such a shrewd move now even though it would be nice to have both.

I might be of overvaluing our picks but our last two drafts look real special. And if howse gets his game going this could be the depth we need to consistently challenge the Vancouvers and other western powers that be.

I'm glad you brought up Lucic, and yes, it does look like a great comparison. However, I think a number of people are reserving judgment on him, because of his situation. Ferland is big and strong, and big, strong guys tend to dominate the CHL in their 19–20-year-old seasons, as Ferland is doing. Also, he is not leading his team in scoring, and one needs to gauge how much he benefits from playing alongside Mark Stone: another big, strong player who is also presently leading the League in scoring. I sure hope that Ferland is really as good as he appears to be right now, but there are mitigating factors which suggest that he is merely making the best of a great situation.

Cautiously optimistic, but not convinced that Ferland is a future NHL power forward.

Ferland looked good in the snippets I saw in the rookie tourney. Big, strong and could protect the puck well. Looked like he needed to improve his skating a tad.

I'm optimistic on him.

He's so calm with the puck... if he doesn't become the next Giroux he could at the very least be an Eberle.

There is a chance, but I doubt he's as good as either.

Phew, I don't think this thread was worth continuing without the input of *insert random Oiler fan*.

I'd be VERY happy if he was anywhere even close to either of them

Yes, a rebuild wouldn't be necessary if he does reach that level.

The key focus at this years draft should be finding a center who can keep up with Sven.

The key focus at this years draft should be drafting BPA with every single pick we have.

If one of those happens to be a very talented center, then so be it.
