Same boat as you Howard, first year living in Toronto and living downtown. Can't wait to get to see so many games and the excitement this team is going to produce with the young talent alone.

Can't wait to see the continued development of Lawrie, Rasmus (fingers crossed) and the young arms in the rotation. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

The Jays should be one of the funnest teams to watch in 2012.
That should be fun. Being at a live MLB game is a fun way to spend a summer evening. Sit close to home plate and try to be like the Hinske heckler from Tampa.

I am also very excited for the Jays this year. God I hope Snider makes a good crack at it this year. A full season of Lawrie and Rasmus will be interesting. Along with, hopefully, continued improvement from Arencibia and maybe a bounce back injury free season for Lind. Johnson is a bit of a question mark. We all know what we can expect from Bautista though.

I get a bad vibe from Snider. Nothing much to back it up with just something about him rubs me the wrong way. If he finally breaks through I'll get it over it quick LOL. But I think the guy is coming real close to make or break(or new surroundings).

In any other division, Toronto probably would have made the playoffs a couple of times over the past decade, and no team will benefit from the extra wild card as much as the Jays. Of course, they could be in position to win the AL East outright very soon.
Not only do they have arguably baseball's best hitter (Jose Bautista), phenom (Brett Lawrie) and farm system, they have virtually no long-term commitments. They are probably one or two pitchers from winning this division and have the payroll flexibility and trade chips to make it happen. This sleeping giant is almost ready to wake up. -- Buster Olney

I'd consider it higher praise if it didn't come from Buster Olney.

I'm more excited about Marisnick and Gose coming up in the next few years then Snider anymore. Hopefully Snider can step up and fill in until they're ready.

Has anyone here ever been down to Dunedin for spring training? I think I might make the 150 mi drive this upcoming week to spend a day at their training complex and see their workouts... Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

He could have spent Spring Training in Florida. The Rangers had a deal worked out with the Blue Jays but Uehara blocked it. The Blue Jays are one of six teams he can block a trade to, and Uehara did not want to go to Toronto. "The weather is an issue," Uehara said. "I also know how hard it is to compete in that division."

It's Toronto, not Antarctica. Lame.

Yeah, those cold April games in a dome are tough on players. What a goofy comment for a guy who was playing in Baltimore.

He's right because outside of the Angels, which will be a tough opponent, their division is a cakewalk compares to the AL East. However having said that it would be pleasing to see Bautista and co. go yard on him this season.

That'd be fine, so long as he gets traded

Off to Dunedin tomorrow morning for four-five hours of Blue Jays spring training... Went to Houston's practice a couple days ago - got to meet Clemens' son, Wandy Rodriguez, Jed Lowrie and Jordan Lyles - kinda neat, but had to go to their roster sheet quite a few times, which I think turns a few people off from stopping and chatting (coulda been the Blue Jays hat too).

For those who have never been to a spring training workout, and truly love baseball (because pitcher fielding practice does get boring after awhile), it is such an amazing atmosphere, with absolutely amazing complexes!!! Everyone just walking around and most willing to stop and shake a hand. Would recommend for every baseball enthusiast!

Just got back from Dunedin - and was a pretty incredible time I must say Beautiful complex with five ball diamonds, all of which are just manicured perfectly!!! Wasn't a great scene for autographs though, as the Jays have done a pretty good job at keeping players away from the fans during practice - I think there was only one diamond where the players had to leave out of a dugout to get to their next field, in which fans would have an opportunity to get something signed. The other diamonds the players were able to leave from the outfield fence to the next diamond - all of which wasn't accessible for fans. Rough pumpkins, was pretty jacked to get a bat signed or a picture or two - but will settle with a 30 second talk with Don Wakamatsu... really nice guy!

Just a few notes from their first "team" practice, as I hope to upload a few of my better photos when I get home:

- Jose Bautista is a true leader. Guy spent all his time, when not in the cage hitting, working with Colby Rasmus, Mike McCoy, and Jeff Mathis on their approach... At one point Mathis came in and hit four outta the park, prompting a fan to ask Bautista what he told him. Bautista turned and smiled, but that was about it. Someone said that the other day, something happened between a fan and Bautista - which kinda put him into a bad mood. Not sure what it was - but he sure wasn't as friendly as I thought he would be.

- Eric Thames is a damn animal... Guy is absolutely ripped, and had numerous great rounds of batting practice. I know it was only one practice, but I would not be surprised to see his starting in left field this year. Thames just hits absolute rockets all over the field, and probably had the second longest ding in bp.

- Travis Snider/Colby Rasmus - like I said, just one practice, but neither really stand out to me in person. Snider's hands do look to have gotten lower, which in turn looks like he is quicker to the ball. Turned on a lot of pitches. Rasmus had a few good rounds of bp, but found myself more impressed with his outfielding and ability to track baseballs down. Neither of them are very big either - haven't decided if that means they aren't big kids, or I need to cut some weight.

- Jesse Litsch is the card of the bunch from what I seen. Probably the only group of all 60 some players that was laughing - and Litsch was leading the bunch. Has lost a "little" weight too it seemed.

- Adam Lind also looked to have lost a few lbs, and someone beside me said that they had talked to him a few days earlier, and he told them he had trimmed down a bit in hopes of a healthy season.

- Ricky Romero is locked in. Followed him thru three of the fields, and was so concentrated in the tedious pitcher fielding practices that it was actually impressive. I hope he has a fantastic season, and truly becomes one of the league's best aces. Comes across as a absolute workhorse, and a heckuva leader.

- Arencibia/Lawrie had great rounds of bp as well. Lawrie probably had the most dings outta anyone - a few no-doubters, as one went off a building well behind the outfield fence.

- Hutchinson is one lanky kid.

- Darren Oliver is as old as advertised. I snapped a good photo of him, just for Maritime

That is all off the top of my head, if anyone wants to know anything more on anyone, just ask and I'll try my best to give ya what I seen. Anthopolous was out and about, and I got a great photo of him I will upload when I get home. Was a great time like I said, a little sad that the players weren't a little more accessible, but that's the way it goes. It is their job I suppose, and someone said that your best chances at autographs is at their stadium when they're on their way to their vehicles - but I just didn't have enough time to do that. Excellent stuff all in all, and more excited about the season that I ever have been.

EDIT - Rajai Davis had the longest home run of the day... easily.
EDIT EDIT - New jerseys are slick as well. The rebranding was everywhere throughout the complex - looks sharp.

Wow, great report! Thanks for all that info, it has me excited for the new season already.

One of my favorite things to watch (as a former catcher myself) is how the catcher interacts with the pitchers. I'm particularly interested in the situation for this upcoming season because of the potential battle for that starting spot we have coming up in the next year or two. I'm curious to see over the next little while how JPA matures, and if he can become that great defensive catcher that every team needs. We really need a guy to step up and be able to work with this young staff and keep them focused if we are going to be successful this year and beyond.

I can't speak much on Travis D'Arnaud, but from all reports, and from hearing quite a few people talking today - I think most would be surprised if JPA does his maturing in the Blue Jays' organization.

I'd love to see that, Darren Oliver NOT in a Rangers jersey, that'd be sweet!

I picked up tickets in July for Jays @ Yanks. First MLB game experience. I'm pretty pumped that I get to see the Jays, at Yankee Stadium!
