Easiest/Cheapest Way To Unlock A Phone
Basically the title says it all.
I just purchased a new phone a Blackberry Bold 9900 and I'm wondering the easiest/quickest/cheapest way to unlock it.
Basically it's locked to WIND at the moment and I want to get it to work with Rogers (at first I was hesitant but I looked it up and asked around and apparently you can unlock it from WIND to Rogers but not the other way around).
Anyway just thought I'd ask CP faithful their advice, thanks in advance!

Disclaimer, I have never unlocked a blackberry, but looked into it for a friend.
Easiest way would be to download something like this, but don't know the cost so can't be sure if it is cheap: https://appworld.blackberry.com/webs.../29634?lang=en
Crackberry.com often has links to websites that offer such services. No idea how cost compares though. I remember them giving away unlock codes a couple years ago though.

I believe it costs $7.99 to unlock a BB.
I'm not sure about a Wind phone working on the Rogers network though. Don't they use different frequencies?

As long as the BB model supports multiple frequencies, which it should, then there shouldn't be an issue. I would certainly check what the handset has available before unlocking though.

Update:
I used http://www.quickphoneunlock.com/ which was really simple and easy to use, $5 USD to get it done.
And the way WIND works is, if you have a WIND phone you can unlock it to other carriers, however you CANNOT unlock another carrier and have it work for WIND (frequency issue).

Wind runs UMTS AWS1700/2100. Wind Blackberry 9900 only does UMTS 1700/2100. Even if you unlock the phone the frequencies will not match. I believe with Rogers you'll be losing both of your data bands. Rogers uses 850/1900 so you won't have 3G data. Phone will work properly, data won't.

This is as good a place as any. I am trying to unlock an Iphone 3GS currently on Bell for a family member.
Running into all sorts of issues, and spent far far too much time on the Interwebz trying to solve an issue over and over that may or may not be under my control. Long story short, the phone as such is now in a delicate state.
I either need some expert advice, or, an expert to accomplish what I need. Anyone here that can help, or, suggest a trustworthy local person (there are a few on kijiji, would rather go with at least a referral) to be able to solve the issues I am having, would be appreciated.

Bump. I'm curious about this as well. I with Telus and am giving my phone to my son and he's on Koodo. They're a lot cheaper for what he needs.

No, well, technically jailbreaking and unlocking isn't "illegal", but the "proper" way to unlock is pay the carrier after the contract is over, or buy it unlocked through Apple.

The worst that Apple or the carrier can do if you unlock a phone is to void your warranty. There's nothing illegal about unlocking a phone.

I never actually meant legally. I meant properly, that didn't include bypassing the Apple database by jailbreaking it THEN unlocking it.
Pretty sure Apple tracks each phone and has to unlock it themselves. Either through the carrier, or they do it at the Apple store. Most legitimate unlocking websites don't advertise iPhone unlocking. At least I've never really seen it.

Yes. There are only 2 ways to get a iPhone unlocked properly. 1) buy it unlocked. 2) some carriers offer to unlock for a price after the contract is over(in Canada)

What I figured. Not sure where I got it from that Apple has to unlock it in their database, but it was from a reputable source.
