Wild Make Changes in Houston
For Immediate Release.
The Minnesota Wild are pleased to announce that the following players have signed contracts with the organization and have been assigned to the Houston Aeros of the AHL.
Pekka Rinne - The Finnish goaltender has emerged as a genuine goaltending prospect with his play this season. GM Grant Farhall commented that the organization was looking to add another solid netminding prospect and the organization believes Rinne is this player.
Brett Hemingway - Hemingway is a player with good offensive instincts, particularly passing skills. However, he needs to work on his defensive game which which the Houston coaching staff will stress.
Igor Volkov - Volkov is a good all around player that has been plying his trade in the Russian elite league. His strong board play and defensive responsibility make the Wild believe that his game is well suited to North America- though he is likely a couple of years away.
Brandon Yip - Yip is a skilled offensive player who's biggest weakness is his lack of size. Though his height isn't bad, Yip needs to fill out some in order to compete with the big boys of the CPHL. However, the Wild will give him time to do so. A long shot to be sure, but one that could have a nice reward if the player works out.
Matt Moulson - Moulson is at least 2 seasons away from even being close to CPHL ready but has good upside talent wise. He's a scorer, has nice size, and plays well in his own end. A long-term project for the Wild.
Andy Wozniewski - Wozniewski is a late bloomer to be sure, but the Wild believe he could help them in 1 or 2 seasons. A strong defender with some offensive upside, Wozniewski will see lots of ice time in Houston and could warrant a call up next seaosn.
GM Grant Farhall commented on the signings
"We felt we had to rebuild some depth down on the farm and like all these kids for one reason or another. We've had some success in the past signing kids like this though one realizes that you're lucky of one out of four work out for you. Regardless though, we think we have some nice players here that can help us".
