Nine-year-old forced to run off a chocolate bar for 3 hours is dead.
Quote:
Nine-year-old Savannah Hardin is dead because she wanted a chocolate bar.
The Alabama girl's stepmother and grandmother found out that she'd eaten the candy without permission, according to police, and punished her by making her run for three hours while they looked on. The third-grader suffered seizures and died.
The Associated Press is reporting that prosecutors may seek the death penalty.

A seizure? Is that what happens to kids when they run for too long? I swear I could go for longer than that.
You got a link?
Alabama? Not surprised...

I think this really depends on the intensity the parents made her exercise.
Also brings up an interesting comparison to football players who die when there coaches overwork them.
I dont think punishment is deserved if there is no other history of abuse. Usually when people die of exercertion there is some underlying condition that hasnt been diagnosed.

From the article I linked above:
Quote:
Roger Simpson, who lives up the hill from the doublewide trailer where Savannah lived with Jessica and her father Robert Hardin, said he saw the girl running in the yard.

It's such a beautiful state too. All those huge live oak trees...

I think we need to wait for more information. My guess is there was something physically wrong with the kid that created the seizures when she was made to physically overexert herself.
Either way, pretty dumb to do that. A kid eating a chocolate bar without permission? OMG! Really have to punish her now.
I doubt the death penalty will apply, but I wouldn't have much remorse.

I'm slightly dyslexic and may have read that title as "Nine-year-old forced to eat chocolate bar for 3 hours" and I sat around trying to figure out what company made a chocolate bar that big.

Yes, that's what happens to anybody when they run too long without being properly hydrated.

Forget about eating the whole thing, I just want to see the size of a chocolate bar that takes three hours of running just to get off of it.

No kidding. Average bar is around 200-300 calories, which I can burn on the bike in 20 min max.

So that county lives in your county and you feed and shelter it? Well you should kick it out, because that county is up to no good.

Has there been a local shortage of chocolate bars, by any chance?

There were times my grade seven gym teacher nearly ran me to death. I would like to see him locked up.
