Great voice in her day. Definitely fell under the influence of the wrong guy.

Sad . . . . . but hard to be sympathetic.

Frankly a part of me is sympathetic to anyone(rich or poor) who falls to addiction, people are additive by nature and anyone can fall into a bad addiction if steared the wrong way. From all accounts she was a good person, gave lots to charitys and her community since a young age.

In a way maybe she was too good for too long and felt the need to rebel and fell for that idiot bad boy Bobby Brown who ruined her life.

Now the goof is setting to cash in on her death by releasing a "so-called" tell all book about her.

Why is sharing music illegal but not books? Libraries have been doing it for centuries. I've always wondered how that's been explained legally.

Well I can lend you my CD if you want, and you can give it back. That's fine.

However if I lend you a book and you photocopy the whole thing, that's illegal.

Music sharing is legal, music duplication is not.

However music duplication is often called "sharing"

Then you would no longer be able to listen to it from your hard drive.

exactly - like returning a book to a library.

But I don't have that option with music - I can't download it and then delete it.

Except for the fact that libraries are specifically granted a license to lend those books out. If iTunes had a version of an album that you could download with a 2 week expiration date that would be similar, kind of like what they do with some movies.

well I think it would be more akin to digital library books that you can't access after a certain time or date, I believe movies have the same technology with them. (I haven't personally done this so I don't know the ins and outs of it all).

I don't think the distinction is "well I made a copy and then deleted it in 2 weeks" because you did so voluntarily. You can't walk into the library, simply remove the book, and then bring it back two weeks later. That is stealing.

Again I'm not saying I believe in this, or that the argument I'm presenting is overly strong. I'm simply stating what I believe the rational is.

That would be great wouldn't it? A yearly pass like a library card which allows me access to music for 2 weeks with a strict renewal process or something.

Aren't there services out there that allow you to access a large catalog as much as you want for a monthly rate? I could have sworn that Napster or one of those went to that model.

Options that are like a library include Spotify, Rdio, Pandora. Once you stop paying for hte service you lose the privelege to use it.
