Reading Rainbow featured Levar Burton who played a slave in Roots, and some slaves found freedom in Canada by means of the underground railroad.

Alternatively, Levar Burton starred in Star Trek. Marnie McPhail from the Edison Twins was also in Star Trek..

So there is at least some Canadian connections.

The Littlest Hobo was such an emotional roller coaster for a kid. The dog would always save the day, reunite the family, whatever... you are all happy, case closed right? WRONG.

The dog always runs off into the woods alone, with the uncertainty that he may not resurface for the next episode. What if he gets hit by a train? What if a hunter mistakes him for a wolf? What if the local pound catches then euthanizes him? So there you are, 7 years old, emotionally distraught over the Littlest Hobos uncertain fate, every Wednesday night at 8:30. Stupid end credits.

I used to love the Littlest Hobo. I was very young when it was on the air. I think I was 3 when the series began, and 9 when it went off the air. I actually watched reruns occasionally when YTV aired it in the early 1990`s. I loved the theme song.

There was the kids show Switchback in the early eighties with Humble Howard. I remember they had a contest to win a Macintosh computer by solving some riddles. I don't think I figured out any of the riddles but I really wanted that Macintosh.

Did Laurie Mustard of Winnipeg end up hosting that show? I remember in 87' when i was in elementary school, he showed up at our picnic day in June. All the kids ran over to his car, and wanted autographs.

I was on google and it looks like there were Switchbacks in the different regions. Like in Calgary, Halifax, and Vancouver I think.

Whoa, just learned this surprising development about the Hobo:

Quote:
In a surprising development in the show, season 5's THE GENESIS TAPES part one and two revealed that Hobo was indeed the same exact and long lived dog as the dog in the 1960s series and this was explained away as him being the next stage of canine evolution. This also explains his higher intelligence.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Littlest_Hobo

So The Littlest Hobo was kinda like Khan from Star Trek. He had superior genetics and intellect to other dogs. I wonder if he will return seeking vengeance on his handler one day?

A remake of The Littlest Hobo would be sweet, but I imagine they would somehow manage to screw it up, possibly by CGI animating it and having him talk in a normal, human voice.

It was all about Under the Umbrella Tree.

Bonus marks for having an Iguana named "Iggy"

Or this sweet piece of retro.

^^^

Bonus marks for having a Giraffe named Jerome.

I wish I could just have turn the clock back for just a week of PB and J sandwiches, episodes of Friendly Giant, and my biggest worry being if Evil Knievel was going to drive the dump truck or the excavator in the sandbox that day.

Reminiscing made me go find this and watch it last night. I miss this show!

You can get the rest of the parts linked from the first video.

It also made me remember a few things I got pissed off about watching -- Caitlin was all mad at Joey for banging Tessa, but didn't she cheat on Joey (sans the banging, I suppose) with that faux euro-###### Claude?

I actually couldn't stand that Caitlin character.

Tessa >> Caitlin. Joey did the right thing.

I can't believe there has been no mention of my all-time favorite Canadian Comedy show...

Boot to the Head

It has a funny dated Calgary reference.

i thought Caitlin was hotter but Tessa was good to go... the fact that Caitlin went out with Claude at one point confirms Joey made the right call.... and in the end, he nailed them both. well played Joey
