Act of Valour
Anyone else seen the commercials for this movie. The premise of this movie supposedly involves using real Navy Seals in the movie.
It looks like a two hour testosterone ride......also noticed that it seems like there is a movie coming out about Seal Team 6........
Can't wait until these movies are available via Shaw VOD as I could not imagine taking the wife out ona date night and announcing that the movie will be this.....

They did use real SEALs. Live ammo too.
Nice to see someone do something original. The story behind the movie was that the US Navy wanted to have a movie made about the SEALs that could serve as a recruiting 'ad'....and somehow they got together with these guys. They began filming with 'actors'...and realized the only way they could make it as original as possible would be to use real SEALs. Had to try pretty hard to get them to commit, but in the end they did and it seems to have turned out really well.
How many SEAL movies have been made that were completely ridiculous? The only one I can remember that was half decent was Tears of the Sun. These people are going to start playing a huge role in protecting our freedom, so its not surprising that Hollywood wants in on it.

I'm actually surprised that the Seal's allowed their community to be placed out in the open like this. Usually active SEALS are extremely secretive.
Its funny that the movie looks like its going to be a complete adrenaline rush with thousands of rounds fired, grenades exploding patrol boats lighting up a shore line.
For the most part you don't see the SEALS coming til after your dead and they do it very quietly.
I doubt that the first hour will show the recon effort that goes into mission planning. Or a sniper sitting in a treeline for two days with his spotter waiting for his perfect shot.

I don't think that the Seals really need a recruiting video, they get tons of applicants every year and then basically kill them during their training and select the very best.
Trust me when I say that a SEAL recruiting video wouldn't show them firing rockets and machine guns, their recruiting video would show in excruciating detail what the recruit trainee's go through to become a Seal and to get through the grinder. It might make it easier for them if the people that don't have the abilities and toughness have a clear idea of what's to come before they head into training.

Is our freedom being threatened in a way that SEALs can combat it?
The movie just looks like another propoganda war movie. If it ends up being great, then that's good! Otherwise it's being advertised as a typical action movie. Not my style but who cares, right?

It honestly looks like a full length feature of that song...without the comedic elements. I've always assumed the SEALs were a very specialized team used for the hardest of jobs, discretely and with little fanfare. The trailer for this movie makes it seem like they in a Michael Bay universe.

I saw this movie in previews on Thursday night. It had some good action sequences, and they were definitely the highlight of the film. The "plot" seemed like it was there to string together the action sequences, imo. It was also visually interesting, the whole film felt like it was a hyper-realistic first person shooter. I'm not sure how they achieved that effect, but it wasn't something I've seen before. If anyone has any specific questions (and this isn't a date night movie, as mentioned), shoot.

I probably generalized too much. We need to combat terrorism in SOME way, and nation building simply doesn't work.
Tactical teams/strikes to take our terrorist leaders, similar to what Obama has been doing more and more of seems to be the most effective.
Either way, I'm excited about the movie. No matter what your opinion is on the WOT and the US, the idea itself is still completely original and should be pretty good.

Unfortunately you can't combat terrorist groups without violence.
The best way to combat terrorist groups is to keep them on the move, and to make them hear footsteps. The other best way is to continue to pin down and destroy their leaders so that less qualified leaders are forced to take their place before they're ready, that creates a general atmosphere of bad missions and bad strategies and mistakes that are picked up by intelligence networks.
That's where groups like the Seals, JTF2 and other special forces groups come into play.
Seal Team 6 for example is becoming the American Military's version of theboogey man.

I mostly meant that I don't feel like Canada or the US' freedom is or ever was in jeopardy from terrorists. But that's all I'm gonna say on that subject.

I am also thinking that this movie will be loaded with cool jargon.......also that scene they show in the trailer with the guy in the water catching the bad guy after he is tapped is almost funny.
I am looking toward to the reviews from CP. I'll be waiting for this to show up on VOD.

I love a good war movie as much as the next guy. But this movie is going to be terrible.
It will have a horrible plot with even worst acting and these great Seal team moments some of you are talking about will be inserted akwardly into the movie and almost seem out of context with the story. The seal team clips are going to look so out of place in this movie cause these guys were not on set doing this it will be all stock footage of them in training.
My expectation for this will be low

As long as they downplay the recruiting aspect and don't bombard the viewer with USA, USA it may be a good movie.

pretty much that my assumption that is the way its going to play out, nothing more than a over the top American recruitment for signing up and pounding their chest USA USA USA.
1 out 5.

That's great and all, but it was never about freedom, its about murderous thugs killing people in mass numbers.
And that's all I'm gonna say about that.

Early reviews say you're wrong. The SEALs actually did a remarkable job at making everything seem as real as possible, despite not being actors at all. In fact they made the filming crew do certain things that made everything even MORE real. Like using live ammo as much as possible, like the whole 'first person shooter' element. It is completely original, and I think it will be great.
There was one scene shot with live ammo where one of the SEALs came out of the building, crouched down, and fired at a target, and the camera guy was literally RIGHT beside him when he began firing. Said it was unlike anything you've ever experienced before.
