Isn't that what representative/responsible government is all about?
You can personally oppose (or support) something but recognize that enacting legislation based on those personal beliefs would be bad governance (or just bad for a re-election bid).

Here's a very good article by Licia Corbella in today's Calgary Herald about JT's Radio-Canada interview...
http://www.calgaryherald.com/opinion...671/story.html
Quote:
Naturally, the on-air conversation turned to politics, and as a result, the 40-year-old Trudeau is taking a beating for saying he’d consider jumping into the proverbial boxing ring with separatist Quebecers if Stephen Harper changes Canada too much.
Here is the English translation of what he said in French: “I always say that if, at a given time, I believed that Canada was really the Canada of Stephen Harper, and that we were going against abortion, that we were going against gay marriage, that we were moving backwards in 10,000 different ways, maybe I would think of wanting to make Quebec a country,” said the Quebec Liberal MP.

Why is it that the only way Liberal politicians know how to promote the Liberal cause is to beat the same dead horse called "The politics of fear and deceit, of the Conservative boogey-man".
Give it up all ready! Everybody is tired of hearing the same old lies over and over again...

I have no problem with Liberal's labeling themselves as progressives or a progressive element, its just a label that I don't agree with.
But Trudeau really does give Progressives a bad name.
The guy has all of his old man's overwhelming arrogance, none of his intellect, and he's a completely self-entitled jerk with Prince Syndrome (No he's not a midget purple rock star)
I keep hoping that he throws his hat in the leadership ring.

I don't get what the big deal is. The guy was speaking of a clearly hypothetical situation where Harper criminalized abortion, gay marriage, etc., etc. He never suggested this was going to happen. And anyone who knows anything about the SCC and the charter knows that's not a battle Harper wins in the long run anyways. Both of these things are protected by the charter, and a constitutional amendment isn't happening.
It's akin to me saying "If the Vancouver Canucks win the Stanley Cup, I'm not watching hockey anymore." It's never going to happen, so I don't have to worry about it.

But if Don Cherry said that, it would be news and have the crap analyzed out of it...

Feds move to close legal loophole threatening same-sex marriages
http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/p...-sex-marriages
How diabolical of them! I just knew you couldn't trust Stephen Harper and those Conservative party fiends.
Finally... their hidden agenda is finally seeing the light of day. Its all downhill from here.
Stephen Harper... the devil incarnate. Beware. Doom is upon us.
Vote Liberal in the next election. Its our only hope for salvation.
