He's a three point game away from a 2 PPG average.

He's one point behind a 2 PPG pace now (73 in 37), and a two point game would keep him one point off (75 in 38).

The selfish Flames fan in me is hoping for a quick playoff exit for Portland to see what the kid can do in Abbotsford

You are correct. I did my math wrong there. a 2 point game would keep him basically where he is now, needing a 3 point game to get to 2.00

The way both teams are playing right now, there might be a better chance that the Flames will be in the playoffs than the Heat.

I also would like to see one of those re-draft's of the 2011 draft to see where he would go if teams were picking today.

You would think he would be a top ten pick, but who knows with the injury in the WJC.

I think Feaster said the Flames ranked Sven at 8th. That may turn out to be accurate.

Conroy said they were really excited that they were able to get him at 13 as they had him projected a few slots higher

Flames Nation had an interesting article about Baertschi and how his season compared to past CHL players:

Ryan Getzlaf 19th 1.06PPG.

Lucky ducks.. ()

also from the url below:

Quote:
- The most compelling comparable for Flames fans is probably Claude Giroux. A 22nd overall pick by the Flyers, Giroux is a similar build to Baertschi (5'11" 175lbs when he was drafted) and also plays the wing. He scored at almost the exactly same rate as Baertschi in his 19-20 y/o season in the QMJHL and has since developed into a very nice hockey player.

I think both Sven and Giroux are better players than scouted due to backwards thinking in the NHL. You don't have to be 6'3'' and 230 lbs at age 20 to succeed in teh NHL anymore. This isn't the dead puck era. Players with Gretzky like builds can be succesfull again.

Oh how I wish Sven turns out to be as good as Giroux.

If he does, don't expect him to be until his 4th year in the NHL.

Of course, if he's a 47pt player for us in his 1st year, I'd be thrilled too, but don't expect Sven to be a legit top line talent until his 3rd or 4th year in the NHL.

Like so many players, Giroux broke out in his 3rd year, and has really come into his own in this, his 4th year. It's also something to remember when discussing Backlund, who's currently in his second year.

That was Team Canada coach Don Hay, during the World Juniors.

I woul rather he is named Memorial Cup MVP while leading his team to the championship.

We want our players to be bred with that winning mentality and it needs to start all the way from the juniors.

I think too many people on here tend to forget that Backlund is still only in his second full season. He will be better and start to improve, it would be a big mistake I think to let him go anytime in the next 2 to 3 seasons, by his 5th if he hasn't quite started to produce to play in the top 6, then maybe consider him as simply a defensive 3rd line centre.

Sven is a machine, can't wait for this kid in Calgary!

Appreciate the list but what it really tells me is it doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot.

( BTW I am excited for Sven becoming a Flame)

If you watched Getzlaf at all in his last year of junior you would know that he wasn't even trying out there. He was literally a man playing with boys.

It was actually funny to watch him play because he would only try when he had the puck and he was trying all kinds of cool stuff...toe drags etc.
