I would still go to your Optometrist though to rule out the small chance it is something else.
Don't get a headache or anything. I did some googling and it may be eye floaters?

From the Mayo Clinic:

Eye floaters are spots in your vision. Eye floaters may look like black or gray specks, strings or cobwebs that drift about when you move your eyes.

Strings or cobwebs would be a good description of what I see.

Not all ocular migraines have associated headaches.

You should visit an optometrist to rule out a retinal issue if it is floaters you see. If you are in Alberta it will be covered by Alberta Health Care.

Hmm. Iwas told I had floaters as well. Another weird thing I forget to ask about is this. It hasn't happened in a while, but I used to get what looked like vibrating drops of water in my eyes. There was nothing in my eyes as far as I know. it was just that all of a sudden all I saw was a vibrating drop of water and it would stop after a few minutes. I rationalized it as being a broken blood vessel hahaha. Of course I have no clue.

Likely a floater that occasionally makes it way into the center. Ask about it at your next eye exam.

Did you speak to the Mayo Clinic over the phone?

I've had a lense replaced in my left eye about 2 years ago. It's been great so far, but I'm wondering if there might be any adjustments, etc., required in the future?

Potentially, but I would not worry too much about it as it is rarely necessary to replace the lens. As technology improves it will get easier and easier and less of a problem.

Are optometrists (much like male-brasierre designers) going to make trillions in the coming decades because so many of us spend our days slumped at desks, staring at computer screens?

Not with the increased competition in the market. More people eating from a bigger pie.

So I'm in line for some new contacts.

I'm not a big contact lens wearer... probably only a few times a month. I used to get it for sports but I found it takes me a few days to get used to the lenses that it was more of a hassle and I just stuck to glasses.

I'm in the ~-5-6 range, slight astigmatism. I prefer toric lenses as they make things seem better. My eyes do get a little dry at times. Right now I'm sampling some monthly biofinitity lenses but at around 6 hours my eyes start getting dry and hazy. Any cure to this? Or do you have any brands you recommend?

Thanks!

^ first step is to try a rewetting drop, like Blink, to see if you get a few more hours of wear.

If that doesn't work try new solution.

After that, see your Optometrist again and try a different contact lens.

Thanks. I'll definitely try that. I have an appointment booked on Monday.

A few more questions...

Do you think it is okay to take a nap/sleep for a day with contacts on? I've heard mixed things from different optometrists about this. I know ideally I should take it off but if I sleep over at a friends or go camping etc. sometimes I don't want to bring my glasses in case they break.

My eyes were a little red after about 8 hrs of wearing them, is this normal or should I stop wearing them?

I also want to ask... what are your thoughts of wearing contacts that are monthlies over a course of a few months? This is of course not constant wearing. I might wear it literally 3 times in a month.

There are dailies I've tried, but there are times where I do need to wear them for a few days and I think monthlies fit my need the best.
