Default Rogers 1 number

Who is on this? This is seriously awesome. Rogers just changed the game with this one.

Setting it up was a little buggy, but after a couple tech support calls, and a tweak to my account, you basically have a land line, texting, video chat, and email all in one portal on your laptop, or desktop, using your existing cell number.

Think of integrated fully featured google voice, skype, and gmail, all tied to your cell number.

Cost? Free.

I dont understand why you'd want to do that on a laptop over a mobile device..

As someone who doesn't have a landline, it basically gives me that luxury. Plus it is 911 supported. You punch in your address when you set it up. Plus as I am surfing the net here, I can text without having to use the phone. Just do it right on the keyboard. It in a nice convenience thing.

I can also see it working well at work. I am do not have to constantly pull out my phone to send sms's. A little more discreet. Also makes attaching pics to texts a lot easier as well. You can attach anything on your laptop, with using up data. Lots of cool perks.

Your point about texting at work makes sense, I just don't understand why Rogers is investing in this. The video they show on the website has a teenage girl choosing to use her MacBook to communicate rather then an iPhone... And they advertise FREE video chat like it's something that's never existed before.

Clearly not something I'll get value out of, but most confusing is why Rogers is giving something for 'free'.

I'll be honest. Given the choice, if I am at home or at my desk, and my iPhone is in front of me, or my Macbook, I am using the laptop to communicate given the choice.

The big sell on this thing to me is integration. Everything filters to your cell #. You don't need multiple accounts on different services to get all this functionality. I just called a a buddy on it, and he said the call quality was outstanding as well.

I wonder if this is why we can't use Google Voice in Canada.

My PC is a POS, as such Roger's 1 number is a POS too! The mic quality is poor on my laptop, my day long trial didn't go well.

I tried it. For about 10 minutes. It is now deleted and will never see action in my browser again.

It won't work if you have a router. Seriously, and their support solution is to not use a router. Really, Rogers? But then again, who has a router these days, amiright?!

Texting is slow and it appears that you have to manually refresh if you want to receive them. Sometimes they show up, and sometimes they don't. And the ugly, clunky interface is not fun or useful.

I call this a fail. It's like they designed this with me in mind. And they HATE me.

I really like the idea for texting at work, but I wont use any of the other features. Allows me to leave my phone in my pocket while at my desk and have the same connectivity. Definitively some bugs though, like my texts will appear in a popup, but I can't find them in the message listing anywhere.

I thought this was happeneing too.

Click on the messages tab, then click on the last message from that user, and it will bring up the whole conversation.

The one thing that bugs me, is the fact that outgoing texts from the phone, show up on the computer, but outgoing text from the computer, don't show up on the phone. So it looks like you are having a one sided conversation with a stocker on the handset.

I was part of the trial for this last year. Cool idea, but unhappy with the execution. It was buggy and unreliable. I guess they didn't bother fixing it before releasing it.

I dont see this really catching on. Sure its neat to text from your computer... but so what? As mentioned previously, it doesnt sound like all the messages are syncing between the computer and phone. Also, this shouldnt be considered a replacement for a landline. When it comes down to it... who is going start up and log into a computer to dial 911? What if youre not at home? This whole IP phone system with 911 is a little risky IMO. Didnt a little boy in Toronto die because his family called 911 from an IP based phone and didnt have the address updated? I know alot of people are dumping their landlines and I can understand why. Ill always have a landline at my house, more so now that I have a kid.

just my .02
