Just watching this for the third time tonight. The first time I was thinking not much would happen this episode. Then the ending blew me away.
It was an intense scene to say the least; like the beginning to Inglorious Basterds, or for MMF the scene with Erik Lensherr in the bar with Nazi's. A scene filled with exposition that builds up to a climax of deathly proportions.
Right when they walked in I knew what was going to happen; but you had no idea how exactly it would play out. I thought the old man would die somehow, so they could find a way to write off his character (they could have ended his arc now). But nope, Rick went all badass and killed the classless jerks off.
Oh and +1 for the buildup on man vs. man, rather than just man vs. walkers. Walkers can only get you so far until they become a tad stale (every walker is the same after all). But, with these new people they can really explore what it takes to survive in the new world. I feel bad for Rick though, as his current group is a tad depleted in combat skills to say the least.
I also hope someone actually calls walkers "zombies" eventually. I always find it strange that in all these different types of movies and series that no one ever calls the living undead, zombies. It's like they were totally unaware of the existence of zombies from movies, comics, or other mediums before this happened. But, that would mean these universes are completely different then our own... Although I guess they are just pulling a Shaun of the Dead where they do not want to equate walkers to zombies, or the living dead.
I thought things may go a different direction untill the fat guy started to piss on the floor. After that the other guy just seemed greasy in conversation. It just happend so fast at the end I was thinking "what just happend?". Had to rewind to see if the guy went for the gun. Rick is a fast draw.

Tracker, I think it makes more sense within the context of the show that they've lived in a "zombie "less world prior to what's happening to them. I think this is pretty standard in most zombie films, minus the tongue in cheek ones like Shaun and Zombieland.
As for killing off Dale because he's uninteresting... Give it time. I thought the same previously about Shane, Andrea and the boy... But all three have comes around and developed this past season. Characters will come and go, but they shouldn't at the sake of who we fans think is interesting. Sit back and see how things happen.
Well I can see Lori losing her baby (can you even call it a baby at this point?) after her car accident. Probably going to be a dust up at the farm when the other group finds their buddies. I think there are maybe 1 or 2 more episodes at the farm before they move on.

I thought that it was explained somewhere that, in the world of the show, "zombie" culture never existed. hence why they don't refer to them as zombies.
Ive never seen a mother leave or abandon her kid more than Lori. I do hope that she is the next one to be killed off. Hopefully she awakens to a band of walkers ready to pounce on her.
She seems to be the only woman on the show whom consistently asks others to do things for her, like she is a leader of some sort. She'd be the last one I would take orders from. I do hope her and Carol are the next to be killed off.
If anybody is interested, this is the song at the end. I like the part they played... the rest doesn't quite do it for me.
such an awesome song, and a perfect fit for that episode. funny though, the views for that video have at least tripled since the last time i looked at it (guess a lot of TWD fans wanted to find out who the band was)
and damn, my opinion of Rick as a character has gone up 100x after that scene. i think i'm gonna like what his arc is gonna be for the rest of this season

Yeah, I think they're going to have her lose the baby. The show has a pretty condensed timeline so it's going to be pretty hard to have her keep it. I also think they may kill off Carl since he'll be rapidly aging soon unless they can find some reasonable excuse to skip time sometime to explain how he's getting so much older in such a short span.
I just want them to kill off Shane. I don't think I can take much more of his crazed routine.
I'm one of those jerks who was all "first episode was amazing, rest of season 1 was ok, season 2 was awful. Are they really going to stretch the farmhouse (possibly the least interesting period of the entire comic series) into an entire season, and why the hell is XXX still alive?". My main gripes being with the characters and the pacing. Now I looooooooove the comics and was wondering if it's worth tuning in again. In short, has the series managed to find it's balls?
comics spoiler
Spoiler!
I forgot XXX's real name, the other cop that Rick killed in the comics so fast I couldn't be bothered to remember his name

On that note- has anybody else noticed how many times people drive around with their windows down? I would think that if there are zombies walking around, you would either just have the windows open a crack, or use the A/C.
Yes, it may be warm out. But there are also zombies. Good time to have the windows up and doors locked.
