I rarely venture to the off topic board, good to see a ski thread here.

Mt. Washington has a terrific base of 3.9 metres with lots of snow accumulations in mid January. The skiing was excellent last weekend. It is definitely not the super powder conditions the Alberta and British Columbia interior mountains have.

There seems to be some discrepancy...

Would love to know if any of them actually have a decent track record of predicting snowfall 3-4 days in advance.

I haven't heard of some of those sites but a lot of their "models" are based off of publicly available data and then interpolated. In other words, environment Canada releases a 15km forecast grid for upcoming precipitation every day. A site like snow-forecast uses their "model" to interpret how much snow will fall at a given point and then apply elevation factors for temp and accumulation. In theory it's great but it doesn't take into account wind and localized things like temperature inversion. Snow-reports.ca uses the same grid to publish their maps and instead of using some bogus formula to tell you how much snow is going to fall it provides you with a general sense of where and when the snow is falling. Then you use your own local mountain knowledge to take a guess at where you should go.
I prefer the snow-forecast website but after reading kevman's post, I will be checking out the snow-reports site.

Can you purchase ski lift tickets to Sunshine or Lake Louise at the local Costco in Calgary?

You can purchase Louise passes for sure, $115 for 2 direct-to-lift passes (and a bumper sticker!). As for Sunshine passes, I don't ski there, so I didn't notice if Costco had a deal or not. I think they did, but I can't be sure.

Last time I was there they had Sunshine passes. They are 3 day passes, and are around 60 bucks a day.

A buddy & I are planning a ski trip in March. I've only been out to Louise so far this season and the snow has been sub par in my opinion. I was hoping for some input on some of the other hills around. We've got a list of Castle, Fernie, Kimberley, Revy, Kickinghorse & Panorama. How has the snow been so far this season at these places? Thanks!

I think Lake Louise has more snow than they usually do.

http://lakelouise.com/tours/winter-a.../alpine-skiing
Average Annual Snowfall: 140 inches (256 cm) mid-mountain, 200 inches (508 cm) back bowls

Currently, 380 cm/397 cm.

Was at Pano this weekend for a race. Heard the upper mountain was in good shape (the odd 'thin' bit. Lower mountain was pretty good on the groomers. It was fairly quiet as far as the masses go, but i don't get up there that often, and am not sure what 'busy' looks like there!

Sunshine has the most snow I have ever seen in my life. Goat's Eye was sick on Saturday and Sunday. It was really windy on Sunday, and the big chairs were closed for most of the day. The access road was closed for a few hours for avalanche control.

http://www.skibanff.com/conditions/

30 cm - 24 hrs
90 cm - 7 days

If you can get out of work this week, go ski Sunshine! Snow expected today and tomorrow. I think they can stay open until July 1st if they want to.
