Default Last minute vacation

Well it looks like I screwed this one up. The GF and I were planning on going on a last minute all inclusive vacation next week. 3 weeks ago prices were not too bad, maybe around $1200 or so, but we though in the week prior the prices would be at least a little bit cheaper. Now I understand it's reading week for schools, and family day weekend, but man have the prices shot up... any all inclusive looks to be starting closer to $1700.

Does anybody have any tips to get a better price? Also, if I can't find an all inclusive for too much cheaper, I wouldn't be opposed to checking out Europe for 7-10 days.

We'd be looking to leave either Feb. 18, 19, 20

Thanks

Europe will be at least twice that per person.

Last minute works great, unless it's a popular time (Xmas break, Reading week, March break for primary schools). You might be SOL.

If you can depart Feb. 15 you can get from Calgary to London for about $700 on Air Transat. Returning Feb. 25.

A couple weeks ago Calgary to England was $400 but this is still decent.

Calgary to Manchester departing Feb. 17 is around $750, also on Air Transat.

redtag.ca has an all inclusive to
Fiesta Americana

leaving on the 18th. For under $950 a person after taxes. It's in Puerta Vallarta and gets descent reviews:

^^^ Did you have a redtag.ca link for that deal? I can't seem to find it on any search attempts of my own.

Unfortunately this was a "breakfast only" booking. Not all inclusive.

Sellofvacations.com has some descent deals though. They have a stay at the Holiday Inn Puerta Vallarta and a good deal to the Dominican Republic.

Itravel2000.com also has some deals.

Screw all inclusives. Get yourself airfare to Managua, Nicaragua or San Jose, Costa Rica or Panama City, Panama $700-900 then see the country.

Oh good. Another "Go enjoy the culture" type. Look, sometimes I want to broaden my horizons and sometimes I just want to get drunk and lay on the beach. Which one do you think an all-inclusive is better suited for?

It's not like you can't get drunk and lay on a beach outside of a non-inclusive. I don't care what anyone does on their vacation.

I can pass out on the beach and not get molested by dogs and weird locals at an all inclusive.

lol, yeah that's the last thing I need on a vacation...carting my 5 year-old and 4 year-old around a third world country trying to score a good deal on a hotel and then fending for myself three meals a day. That sounds like absolute hell.

People who take their children to all inclusives really GMG.

The problem is more that all-inclusives try to hard to cater to both families and adults. Resorts really need to start declaring themselves one or the other. Everyone will be happier.

I don't even know what you mean by this. I genuinely don't care how people choose to spend their vacations. Yeesh.

As a legitimate suggestion for jroc, I would expand his search beyond the usual suspects and check out all-inclusives in some of the countries I mentioned. They have been showing quite reasonable airfare lately to all the cities I mentioned.
