Andy has been hurt this season in the NHL, so that should lower his re-sign rate in the offseason. He's been fairly consistent 2nd line player for the past few non injury filled years, so it makes sense to move a couple assets to get him.

Andy McDonald is the perfect guy to get a grid deal. He only plays 15 games a season so his big cap hit will remain on your IR most of the time. Also, when he retires in a year due to his concussion history the contract will come off the books freeing up a bunch of space. Think of it as an "investment" to make sure you do not spend the money elsewhere.
