I would hope that a professional-grade espresso machine would produce a better result than a $249 Nespresso.
considering the price of those coffee pucks plus the 250 or so for the machine I figure it will take about a year to pay for a decent espresso (400 bucks or so) maye 2 to 3 years to pay for a commercial set up, my relatively cheap Saeco/Gaggio has been going strong for 7 years and still makes great coffee.

Horrible analogy. A Nespresso can't produce real espresso. Comparing what it produces to a real espresso machine, whether an entry level model or a commercial one, is like comparing pruno to wine.

No true Scotsman fallacy. Espresso is simply defined as "a concentrated beverage brewed by forcing a small amount of nearly boiling water under pressure through finely ground coffee beans". What you mean to say is "A Nespresso can't produce GOOD expresso", which now boils down to matter of opinion.

The 'quality' of the end product is all we're concerned with. Coffee is a personal thing. What tastes like garbage to one might taste fantastic to someone else. Just ask anyone who has never drank coffee before versus someone who enjoys a nice strong after-dinner espresso. I could barely drink espresso until I became accustomed to the taste of normal coffee. Now I can appreciate a good espresso (and used to drink it quite regularly - the restaurant I bartended at had an espresso machine).

The machine itself certainly isn't deficient - I mean, the damn thing can generate 19 BAR of pressure, far more than is needed. If it's the actual ground coffee product that you're concerned with, they make refillable Nespresso pods that you can fill with your own ground beans.

HOT SPRAYING COFFEE UPDATE!

Got the replacement part today from Tassimo. It has an extra ring to lock down the t-disc. Kinda cool but with the extra moving parts I wonder if it will break at some point, I kept the old one just in case.

I received mine yesterday. Interesting little gadget, but I have the same concern as you. I manually close the retaining ring instead of pushing the lid down to snap it in place.
