During points it's the same as a 'regular' tennis match...at least any of the DC matches I've been @/watched on TV. People respect the players during the points, but can get pretty jazzed up between points.

Yup that's pretty much it. Can't yell during rallies. Sometimes if the crowd is rude you can yell after a missed first serve.

That's what I pretty much thought. Now I just need to convince 3500 fans to be rude and cheer on missed serves! Need to rattle the french

I wonder who'll the people in Montreal/Quebec cheer for. Imagine if the DC was in Montreal...

This is why they purposely chose to have it in Vancouver as far away from Quebec as possible. If Canada were hosting USA for example, it would probably be in Montreal so we can boo the anthem

Overall, I think this is a good draw for Canada:

Monfils is hurt.

Why would monfils say hell play Davis only to be Hurrt. Seems like great draw and I'm excited to get drunk and watch but I'd rather see monfils or Simon over bennateau. Im a little dissapointrd as a tennis fan over being a Canada fan

During the media conference yesterday, the French team said they came to the decision to not have Monflis in the draw earlier that day. I think he got in a few rounds of practice before he realized he wouldn't be able to keep up with play. They may regret not having asked Richard Gasquet to play now.
It's the Davis Cup though - anything can happen!

Monfils was already limping in Melbourne and should have taken the week off.
But it was a tournament in Montpellier where he was the defending champ so he wanted to go. Gasquet was there too. Tsonga smartly took the week off. Also it couldn't have been predicted that Monfils would play a very long semifinal and final.
Canada knew all of this since last year, one of the reasons why Vancouver was chosen.

First Blood To AMERICA!
Fish def. Wawrinka 6-2, 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 9-7!
Wawrinka losing on clay, he's really gone downhill lately.

Some off court stuff...
For the sake of not de-railing the thread, do a quick Google search on him and what he did to his family. It really rubbed me the wrong way.

Isner holding his own against Federer, 1 set apiece.
Isner would be winning if he converted more than 1/10 break points.

Pospisil looks like he's got pretty bad nerves so far. Hopefully he can find a bit of a groove at some point tonight, I think there's a decent chance that his next singles match will decide the whole weekend.

A lot of unforced erros thus far. His serve looks real good though. Agreed - I think that match will be key.

He's settling in a little bit, still alot of unforced errors. Yep - when that first serve is in it's a real weapon for him.
Thought Vasek seemed a little intimidated in the pre-match interview so I'm not that surprised by the nerves.

He's playing much better in the second set. Laurendeau told him to slow it down and he certainly has.
Damn, Tsonga has wonderful movement on the court. He's so balanced and never gives up on a ball. It gives him a lot of weapons.
