Before the Keurig I would stop for a coffee on the way to work. Now I just make a single cup in the morning before I go. Cheaper and faster than stopping for coffee every morning.

And I'm not a morning person; I've probably made a pot of coffee 10 or 12 times in the past decade. I just can't force myself to get up early enough to make a pot. And even if I did, most of that pot would go to waste.

So while a Keurig is definitely more expensive than making a pot using grounds, if you are only going to make a single cup then I think cost is probably similar and the convenience is the deciding factor.

			I love Coffee

Wouldn't do the tass/keur machines as it's such a waste. I make a pot in the morning, drink one large cup, will have a cup when home from work.
Next day I'll microwave a large cup from the original pot. Delicious!

Or, I'll drink instant which I don't find to be bad at all. I just like a hot coffee drink in the morning.

I like the coffee's out of the two machines being discussed. But I don't want more devices on my counter and it does seem like a lot of waste and high cost per cup.

The Tassimo was bough for me as a gift (ermmm....means of offing the son-in-law who does a poor job of supporting her daugher.) by my mother in law.

Similar to Bobblehead, I use it on weekday mornings for a cup of coffee before I head to work. It's pretty fast and convenient, and importantly...quiet which works because I leave for work just after 7, and my wife and kid like to sleep in till 7:45'ish. I have stopped to buy coffee on my way to work like 3 times in 6 months since I've had it. I also make something to eat all those mornings too, rather than stop for a bite to eat. Weekend mornings though, I just brew a pot of regular coffee, as I need 3 cups to keep up with my kid.

I drink a lot of coffee, and the single serve machine does give me options. Plus Saturday afternoon when the kids napping...it's nice to just pop in a disk and get a single cup of coffee, rather than the drill of get beans, grind beans, and put it through the coffee maker to get one cup.

What's so good about it?

I'm not asking in a snarky way, I'm being sincere. I know why I bought a Tassimo over the Keurig, but I never really looked much into the Nespresso, largely due to the price of the machines.

I have never tried it, and to each there own, and this reviewer could be out to lunch, but he doesn't shine a bright light on it, which is to bad, I kind of wanted it

This is brilliant marketing by the coffee company. First Starbucks convinced people it was worth it to pay $5 for a cup of coffee or a latte when it was a dollar or two everywhere else. Now Tassimo and Kurig convince people that they will have money by buying these single serving coffees that are ONLY a dollar a cup compared to $5 at starbucks. Brilliant marketing. And not only that once you have a machine you will probably increase your consumption because it is so convenient and coffee is addictive. And you will still go for the occasional starbucks (everyday) at work for the social aspect of it. So really your coffee expenses overall if carefully tracked will probably increase with the purchase of this machine when it is sold as a money saving product.

They have taken something that was pennys a glass and turned into dollars. Not to mention you are locked into a format for your coffee so Tassimo makes money on every cup through licensing fees. Meaning like printers they can sell the machines at or below cost and make money on ink. I'm impressed purely from a marketing stand point.

Yeah I'm not sure why people are convinced good espresso comes out of something convenient and fast. My dad had a nespresso, and now has a juro full auto, and compared to my full commercial setup it tastes like harsh coffee.

I agree, it used to be you had a perker then espresso machines came along which made 1 cup in a few minutes very easily, as far as I can tell these machines do exactly the same thing an espresso maker does at about 6 times the cost and possibly a minute or two quicker.

Is that really a reasonable comparison, though? Price difference between a single-serving machine versus a commercial setup as you have is quite different. It's sort of like complaining that the leather interior in a Chevrolet Impala isn't as nice as the one you might find in a Mercedes E-Class. The person buying one wouldn't necessarily be a candidate for the other.

I would hope that a professional-grade espresso machine would produce a better result than a $249 Nespresso.
