If that's true then it means that this was a well planned out move with good intelligence which points to a State sponsored assasination to remove the family.
That would point to the Military since the Military is considered to be in the Chinese sphere of inluence. The Intelligence apparatus is beholden to the State of North Korea and maintaining its powerbase there.
If this was true.

If it was a multiple person hit, your right it does point to the North Koreans, but they had to have gotten intelligence help from the MSS since China would provide the first level of security and locations.

That's how I see things too.
Even a foreign delegation would have a tough time pulling this off without Chinese knowledge/assistance.

I was amazed she responded to me. To be clear, she said nothing about the assassination story or the rumors of Chinese military crossing into NK.

I have my doubts on that source. But I don't know how good Redit is in terms of information.

They can be good sometimes, and at others, bad. It's a large community, so you get an eclectic mix . . .
That being said, if all it is is a rumour, it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to imagine that embassies in the region would likely be at high activity levels trying to confirm the rumour.

I think any major military move by the PLA would be picked up by mainstream media by now.

I don't know how happy South Korea would be about all of this, it doesn't end the threat against them as a lot of the Military activities, shelling the Island the sinking of the Frigate would be attributable directly to the Military flexing their muscle and not Kim Jong-Il or his son.
A hardline government based around the Military in North Korea would probably be just as hardline but probably way more unpredictable.
And if China rolls in and installs a puppet government, the Chinese and South Korean's are the most bestest of buddies.

Yeah, if the PLA was on the move, the Americans would know instantly, and it would have been leaked by now.

Its not like the Chinese would be exactly subtle about it, they'd have hundreds APC's flooding over the border supported by Tanks and other vehicles. The PLAAF would also be at a higher alert status as well.

Well, they could be on high alert for any number of reasons including a major round up of corrupt officers. They recently cracked down and arrested a top police officer for talking to the Americans at one of their embassies without authorization. We'll see what it is soon enough, though the Chinese are fairly good at blacking out their media.

The Economist predicted this last year saying that the transition period will be fraught with intense internal division unless Kim Jong Il stepped down and transitioned power himself before he died. He didn't.
So what you have is one son (of many) trying to corral a vast military establishment. Meanwhile China, the only official sponsor of NK, wants to see stability in the region above all else. Their ambitions in the South China sea are paramount in handling this situation.
Consider this essential reading:

Beijing leadership is far more stable than anything in North Korea for the last 60 years. I think Seoul would be pretty happy to have a Chinese puppet, at least for the time being. Of course, if things heat up over the Taiwan Straights again, it could be a completely different story (because of the US military presence in South Korea.)

Hey guys, he's not as bad as his father. He visited a school and tasted soy sauce! A true hero for the North Koreans.
