I QUIT! The quitting smoking support thread.

congrats to all of who've quit, very inspirational reads here.

Its been 3-days for me, using the gum 2mg split into 2. But today, I find my brain tricking me, just go buy one, just one, producing the sensation of the smell while i sit in my office.

Pretty intense what your brain can do, how it can trick you. I hope i get through today.

First five days are rough. It gets easier after that.

My inspiration is elevators. There's nothing worse than going into a crammed elevator at work or at a mall and knowingly smelling like an ash tray.

My other inspiration is those smokers you see with weathered skin, ragged windbreakers and hats from the early '90s. They look so withered and gross, and you know back in the 80s they were the athletic good-looking types. Time and smoke has petrified their skin and broken their disposition. Yech.

I still dream of smoking occasionally then I wake up all mad at myself for caving...

2 week shy of one year for me. Still mind blowing to me that I actually did it and that it was actually relatively easy once i got past the first couple of weeks. I always thought I was never going to be able to do it, that it was too hard. But like I said, the first couple days are rough, but you gotta push thru that and then it gets easier as it goes along.

2 weeks completely smoke free. I was smoking on Champix for close to 6 weeks, until I finally made a quit day. It has been really easy, considering everyone around me smokes.

I have put 81 dollars in my jar in 6 days of not smoking REally jonesing today, but very happy My 2 month reward will be spending the money in my jar in vegas the first week of March that's around 556 dollars

Why such odd numbers? You put the money you don't use to buy smokes in the jar? A pack every 1.5 days?

I still have dreams where I am smoking, 9 years later.

I have heard emoticon overuse is a side effect of quitting for some people. T's and P's.

6 days after going a pack a day for 15 years. Cold turkey, just decided "ok, we're done here". Had a few wobbly pops tonight and no urge to smoke. Woo for me.

12 days now. Eff it I'll just hijack this thread since everyone else has either quit for life or failed. A few hardcore cravings but meh, said I quit so I'm done. Dammit.

So after 16 years of smoking 11-12 cigarettes a day I decided to quit on Tuesday. I've managed to fight off my cravings every day since Tuesday caving every night to take 2 drags before throwing the smoke away after getting a headache after the couple drags.

It's been tough, but I really feel I'm on my way to quitting for good very soon. I know I haven't quit completely yet, but to be able to fight off cravings during the entire day completely, I think I've done quite well. I don't ever carry cigarettes with me during the day and I only crave when I get home because my roommate has smokes...

Also very surprised that going a whole day without smoking and then having one drag late at night would give me such crazy headaches.

7 weeks smoke-free. Almost $300 saved. I was having bad cravings about a week ago, so I started taking Champix again, .5 mg 2x a day. The cravings have subsided again.

Nice job. I've tried quitting a few times, but found it really hard before. For some reason, the cravings this time haven't been so bad... It was unheard of before for me to be able to go an entire day without smoking, but this week it's been a lot easier for some reason.

The cravings come, but they usually pass after a few minutes. The hardest thing like I said for me is coming home and having smokes available since I stopped buying smokes on Tuesday too. I think if I didn't have access to smokes at home, I wouldn't have smoked at all since Tuesday.

That's one of the factors for me too, my girlfriend smokes. It was tough at first, now I just tell her she stinks and to get away from me. This quitting smoking thing has done wonders for our relationship.

I quit in 2003 and still have occasional dreams where I smoke. When a wake up I feel great relief.
