I have only tried red bull, I find it gives me the hebe-jebe's.....guys I play hockey with will down an energy drink at 9 or so, before we head out on the ice. I don't get how these guys can fall asleep.

I would personally never use an energy drink to prepare for a sport.

They help me stay awake, but I wouldn't necessarily say they give me energy.

Well, quite a bit. I can drink and energy drink, and no matter how hard I try, I won't be able to fall asleep for at least 5 hours. But I don't feel energized.

If I drink a Red Bull before a hockey game, I just feel sluggish and lazy. A negative effect for me. I'll be wide awake, but it just doesn't feel right.

Used to be able to get this several years ago from a gas station near me run by a Korean family, unfortunately they changed owners and it disappeared. The only energy drink that made me feel more focused without being jittery, maybe it was all in my head but I loved the stuff.

I used to drink Red Bull during university but then I found pills called Pep Back. I was up for 36 hours straight a few times without feeling even the least bit tired. The first few times I really noticed an increased heart rate, but I got used to it. I did pee a lot as well. I haven't used them in 8 years, but they were very effective for keeping me awake.

I drink Cheetah Power Surge because I want to be as good of a hockey player as Mike Zigomanis and Luca Caputi.

How many of those provide energy but don't have a ton of sugar in them? Its not a good idea to use them for sports because you burn through the sugar and crash as soon as its gone.

Rockstar Burner is sugar-free and apparently carb-free too! I usually get the x-tra large can with the twist-top lid, just to increase the french shower factor.

I love Energy Drinks when I need a pick me up. But I'm convinced that they are my generation what cigarettes are to my parents generation.

Honest question. If someone didn't have enough sleep and needs a jolt of energy for the day, what is more effective? Coffee or an energy drink?

I had to cut down my caffeine intake considerably. It was giving me bad anxiety and contributing to some terrible sleep.

Energy drinks have a lot of caffeine and sugar, but so do large cappuccinos and other specialty coffees. Oh, and Ashasx, the reason you probably felt sluggish while playing hockey after a red bull is because caffeine is a diuretic and you were likely dehydrated.

5 Hour Energy is nothing more than a bunch of B vitamins crammed into an expensive little bottle. Your body metabolizes what it needs and you pee out the rest. You can gain an energy (and mood) boost from vitamin B, but not much from a shot of 5 Hour Energy. Most of that is a placebo effect. But if it works for you, then who am I to say otherwise?

There, I'm done being a smarmy know-it-all.
