Story
I remember doing a project on them in school, always figured that the heat generated by the current was a huge issue and caused everything to melt. But the muzzle velocity it would generate were ridiculous. Pretty cool that they are actually using them though.

Certainly would make shooting a clown from a cannon with substituting cannon with railgun a excercise in humanity.

I look at that snipers shot at over 7000 yards, and I feel shame. When I was in the military I could head shoot a target on the range in optimum non combat conditions with a low range from about 500 yards max using the old iron sites onthe FN

I can't imagine being able to do that shot from 7000 yards. And even with a good scope that guys head probably looked like a very small pea. then an exploded watermelon.

I kid

feet? 7000 yards is about 6.3km. The shot was at 2.47.

Wasn't he talking about shooting clowns with a railgun? 7000 feet sounds like a laugh...

He was talking about the sniper and then his own shooting, so I am assuming he just mixed up his units of measurement...

I know, just making a joke. The visual of a clown getting shot off a railgun is entertaining haha.

So literally the guy getting shot would be hit by the bullet while seeing the flash about about the same time, gurgle a little and die and then 4 seconds later his buddies would be alerted to the gunshot.

So they would probably be dead or underfire before they heard the first gun shot, depending on the snipers speed.
Wouldn't you also hear the sonic boom of the bullet?

500 yards (consistantly) over open sights is pretty heroic shooting in it's own right, Cap'n.

Many years ago, I fired beaucoup de 7.62 NATO out of that kicking mule (C1) myself...one h*ll of a weapon. Good times.

Cheers, Ron

Yep...at about the same time you were wiping your buddy's brain matter off your face/tunic (and pooping in yer pants). You'd have to be "danger close" to hear the disturbance from such a small object. Sometimes the movies actually do get some things right.

Oh, you wouldn't hear it before it hits, that's for sure. But I was thinking maybe you'd hear it before the sound from the gunpowder explosion reaches you (which I don't even know if it would at that distance?)

Turns out the sonic boom of a bullet is an issue, as it allows for a sniper detection system
