I don't see any other real option, no matter how many others might also feel the same way.
This is a good idea. If you approach them in a positive, polite way, they may just accommodate you and your neighbours.

When I was working on the Vetro & Nuera towers, the residents of Sasso were complaining about noise on Saturday mornings. So all the trades agreed to put off noise until 8:00-8:30. Even some trades that had to make excessive noise consistently agreed to put those tasks off until Monday.

I've had construction going on next door to me (new building going up) for the better part of a year. Previously, I wouldn't get up until 8:30, so getting up at 7:00 was a shock to the system for the first little while.

To make matters worse they often work weekends too. Nothing like getting woken up by jackhammering at 7:00am on a Saturday after a night of drinking...
Had the exact samething going on across the street from me for the past year or so as well. Putting up a bunch of townhouse style condos. They seem to be a lot quieter and start later in the winter though. Can't say I blame them, I wouldn't want to be outside at 7 AM in -30..

I have left the house a few times after lunch and found a whole whack of them sitting alongside my house in the shade eating their lunch during the summer months. I usually don't say anything, the grass isn't down yet it is just dirt. But when I started finding garbage and pop bottles I kicked them off. They also like to use my front porch as a change room when it is raining and park their trucks in my driveway when they think nobody is home.

Also to add, one thing you can try is sleeping with some white noise. I am a very light sleeper, the littlest things used to bother me, even light in the room. But since I started using a fan it takes a lot more to wake me up. Give it a try, crank the fan as high as it goes and see what happens.

Get a job application with them and apply for a job working side by side with the workers. Help them complete their project ahead of schedule, like a boss. When they have finished the project a couple weeks earlier thanks to your help, enjoy some quiet sleep time. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

If they actually are Newfies then you're going to need something stronger than coffee and donuts.

Just because they're Newfies doesn't mean it's ok to put rat poison in their coffee... (aka screech)

The fan is actually a good idea. My landlord is adding an addition to the back of our place and my roommates are constantly complaining about noise. However, I use a simple stand-up fan in my bedroom and I usually can't hear a thing, or if I do it is usually quite quiet. It's also great for keeping the air circulating in the room!

Sounds like the same guys who constructed the houses beside mine. Most of them looked like they have nothing to their name, so the lack of respect isn't really surprising. I remember coming home to find damage to my house almost daily (AVI is fantastic to deal with, btw) with their tools hanging off the vents of my house... I really wished I would have kept the tools instead of pitching them on the ground.

I was just going to say this.
In reality, there is nothing much you can do if they are following the Bylaw, just be thankful they are not starting at 7:00 or earlier because there are some cases that this happens.

Lucky you don't live next door to me, you'd be complaining about the jackhammering 24 hours a day, and the religious services on the weekends with all of those girls screaming "Oh god Oh god Oh my god"

Jazz: Well, that weekend was a mistake.
Ford Fairlane: Hey, look. I'm sorry I made you clean the toilets and the bathtubs, I mean, who did all the work in bed?
