At the end of the day he probably made some money on his webiste and ebook from the suckers out there and he got to live rent free for a few months.

I would be surprised if the company that took the land back didn't go after him for legal fees.

If you do want a homestead though the government occasionally makes new crown land available for purchase. I think there is a large block (several thousand acres) coming up for sale near Peace River. The land has never been broken so it wouldn't likely cost that much money to purchase outright.

Although I'm basically just curious, I couldn't find any information about this or any other Alberta crown land for sale. So if you have a "let me google that for you" path, I'd be much obliged.

Here is a link to the news story on land for sale in the north. I think most of it has been sold now. I would imagine as well that you would have much better luck trying to buy land in the northern half of the province although I have heard of sales in the Nordegg area.
