Is there anything I can do about the noise next door?
I live in Vancouver, the bylaw for home construction says they must start at 7:30 and end at 10.
The house next to me is undergoing renovations which it likes to start at 7:30 in the morning. I looked up bylaws and it doesn't seem like they are breaking any.
But this is simply ridiculous, they are throwing stones into a large metal bin. How is this al-right at 7:40am? Especially how this is an area where mostly university students live.
Usually the noise isn't as loud as giant stones being flung into a huge metal drum followed by a hail of newfie laughter. But like clockwork, i'm awoken by loud hammering and yelling at 7:30am on weekdays.

Is there anything I can do legally?
Poor hard done by university students, have to go to bed before 3am in order to get a good night sleep.
Thoughts and Prayers.

There is probably a maximum decible level that cannot be exceeded during any time, probably can only complain to the bylway people that they are exceeding that.
Had a similar issue here, guy across the street would work on cars pretty much all day long with his garage door open. All you would hear all day/night is his air compressor and power tools. Complained to bylaw and eventually they came out and told him to shut his garage door or he would be getting fines.

'back in the day' when i did construction we started at 7am in residential areas.... be thankful for that extra half hour!
now that i'm self employed my first employee arrives for work at 7am, which usually means i've been working for an hour before he gets in to make sure he's got lots to do
i don't remember what it feels like to 'be awoken' at 7:30 on a weekday

I've had construction going on next door to me (new building going up) for the better part of a year. Previously, I wouldn't get up until 8:30, so getting up at 7:00 was a shock to the system for the first little while.
To make matters worse they often work weekends too. Nothing like getting woken up by jackhammering at 7:00am on a Saturday after a night of drinking...
It sucks man. For a good year last year my neighbors were building a house so I would hear jack hammers, huge trucks and all that other good stuff they do. The worst was this noise not sure what it was - sounded like rocks being dumped into a bucket from 3 stories high. I would wake up to that sound, come back home from school/work and hear it until evening. It was pretty bad that I slept over at my friends for a while.
I really want to have sympathy, but I can't even watch TV/listen to music/play video games at a reasonable volume in the middle of the day without my miserable old c$&% of a neighbour banging on my wall and calling my landlord.
You really did answer your own question. They aren't breaking any by-laws.
Learn to live with it. I've lived in an area with construction for almost three years. You either get used to it or you waste a whole lot of energy on complaining about the noise. Adapt or move.
Yeah nothing you can do but maybe bring them over a round of coffee's and discuss.
What sux more for me was this happened to me at my resort in mexico last year! The room above us was being renovated and they started at 7:30am and the first couple of days they we're chipping away floors tiles... it was infuriating!
