Default 2012 Calgary Stampeders Thread

Thought I would start a new one now that the 2011 season is over.

The offseason has begun and free agency begins February 16th. Discus any rumours, rumbling so on about the Stamps.

Stamps signed some training camp fodder today...

The Calgary Stampeders bolstered their offense on Wednesday, signing import running backs Jeramy Avery and Michael Smith.

Not much to choose from FA list. I am hoping Stamps would go after DE Aaron Hunt, DE Justin Hickman, re-sign Brandon Isaac and Burke Dales.

I heard a lot of talk about him going home to TO or Hamilton.

Not sure how legit those rumours are though.

I think we have one of the best if not best group of Canadian receivers. Parker and Forzani should be awesome, and we have Arthur as well who is pretty good when healthy.

I hope we re-sign Dales for sure, would be crazy not to.

I have also heard Fantuz will not be re-signing with SK, speculation and rumours but I am going with my gut on it, don't count on him wearing the rider green next season.

I think Dales is gone personally. Maver can punt, and I actually recall hearing in his draft year that most people suggested he would wind up a better punter than a placekicker. Either way, I don't think they want to move on from Parades so it's either cut Maver and re sign Dales or keep Maver. I like Dales, but I dont' see how Maver can't get a similar job done for what should be less money.

I'd like to see the Stamps go after Aaron Hunt, Jamal Lee,Greg Peach, and Justin Hickman. Pickings are slim, so more than likely I could see the Stamps relying more on their import camps as opposed to established CFLers.

Does anybody know what our cap situation is? We obviously need to beef up our D-line, but is it possible to do that and still make an offer to Fantuz?

I thought this was cool:

"As well, the Stamps will have an Aussie influence in camp, as former Aussie Rules Football player Scott Crough, who had a handful of NFL workouts last year, has signed a deal with Calgary, and should be at rookie camp in June."

I'm hoping the Stamps land DL man Aaron Hunt tomorrow. Rob Murphy would be a great addition to the OL. And I wouldn't mind Byron Parker and or Willie Pile in the secondary.

As per huffnagel he doesn't think we have any holes on our team. We wint sign anyone, even though we could not get any pressure in qb.

I don't think that was his point. His point was he doesn't have any glarring needs that he is going to NEED to fill via FA and spend a bunhc to get. he did mention that there are certain interests he has but they are going to have to be within the cap paramters, and from what I understand the Stamps don't have a ton of cap room to play with.

I agree that Hunt would be a good option, I even wouldn't mind Anwar Stewart on a short term deal too. Older yes, but he has as many sacks as Hughes last year, but those are not day 1 guys you go out and get into bidding wars for IMO. Let's almos remember, Corey Mace was hurt all last year and Bulke and Turner were rookies so it's not like they don't have talent. Juwan Simpson had a brutal year and should bounce back. Their best bet to get a pass rush is more than likely going to come via the import non CFL route than to sign a CFL free agent.
