Are you talking about Chick Pea @ 8th Ave. and 7th St. SW? They have some delicious homemade hot sauce there.

No, not Chick Pea. This one just has a sign that says Shawarma I think and it's inside a building on 8th and 8th.

I do like Chick Pea though.

Chick Pea (near 7 St & 8 Ave SW), Cedars Deli (near 30 Ave & Edmonton Tr NE), and Falafel King (near 2 St & 8 Ave SW) are all very good. IMO Chick Pea is the best; their falafel wrap and beef donair are excellent (haven't had chicken). If the guys at Chick Pea have children I'm pretty sure I've paid for much of their college tuition.

Also, their baklava is absolutely amazing. I've had baklava in Egypt, Israel, and Jordan, and this beats them all hands down.

I don't care if I'm replying to a two month old post, Pita Grill is the best donair I've ever had. They load them up with a good amount of meat too.

Not sure what the deal is. The donairs are great. Although, its the only place ive really gone for donairs, haha.

I went to the Pita Grill for the first time last week and had chicken shwarma.
It was very good, I will be back!

If you get the chicken shwarma at the Pita Grill, make sure to get the garlic sauce mixed with the hot sauce. To me, that's what makes the Pita Grill so good is their sauces.
I'm talking myself into going there for lunch today.

+1 for chick pea. It's 4 block away from where I work but it's always a tasty treat when I get to go there.

They did get busted selling coke out of their shop so that might have something to do with it...

Anyone ever try Donairs to Goooo on 16 Ave (across from Peters Drive in)?
Ordered a donair yesterday and the thing was literally the saltiest thing I've ever eaten in my life. And the sauce, combined with the toppings, seemed to make it even saltier.

My experience seems to fly in the face of the reviews on urban spoon so I'm curious if they have new owners or something? http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/15/15913...2-Gooo-Calgary
It's also advertised as "Egyptian" food on their website, so I'm wondering if it's just a different style that I'm not accustomed to? For the record I've eaten at several donair places around town so I'm pretty sure I know what a donair "should" taste like...

EDIT: I should add, it's too bad because the donair was pretty big for the price... I would have happily gone back had the thing not been practically inedible

Jimmy A&A = Paradise.

Whenever I hit up Calgary, I make sure to head to Jimmy's. Weird how there are virtually no Donair shops in Winnipeg, yet there are dozens in every single large Canadian city. If I knew how to operate a Donair place, I would open one in the Winnipeg area.

Only if Jimmy's A&A Large was under 10 bucks, I'd consider it the 'best'.

The Large at A&A is the only fast food item anywhere that I can not finish. Even with the medium I consistently get a bad case of meat sweats 3/4 of the way through. It's still delicious!

Had an awesome 'Halifax Donair' at the Below Deck Tavern on 8th avenue for lunch yesterday and it was superb. Get the pepperoni and cheese add on!
Can anyone explain what makes a Donair 'halifax-style'?
