The statements that everyone makes about lack of evidence are a little odd- do people really think the general public have been shown every peice of evidence in this case? I guess people forget there is security camera footage

Is there? I haven't seen any confirmation of that at all.

if he was being tortured before, imagine now that he came out with it.... I wonder if the judge put him in a different jail or something.

Yes, and we deserve to see that footage! Its our right as spectators to see footage of a naked woman being beaten within an inch of her life. Until I see it, her husband did it.

This is from the Facebook of the guy who had an altercation with the suspect prior to the incident..
Mike Munro Thanks everyone. @Stacey, I'm not sure. @Jake his english was as good as mine, so I call BS on that as well. This article unfortunately misses 90% of the reason why I contacted them (giving name, description, and other info on his 'canadian' friend), but what can you do? FYI the video in the elevator shows a WHITE male beating her, not a mexican, so it was his friend that did the crime. Also the friend is not Canadian, but merely lived in surrey for a couple years before coming to Mexico to skip outstanding warrants (another thing they didn't mention). Apparently the reporter is working closely with a police reporter in mazatlan, so hopefully the information was delivered to him and can be some use.

Probably skipped town after the riot and has been hiding out ever since.

People know they can just move provinces and skip the majority of traffic/criminal warrants right from whatever province they were in right?

Once again, I'm confused as all hell. Why wouldn't they just pin it on the white guy then? I mean if he was on the video and had warrants in Canada. Wouldn't it make the most sense? Some seedy Vancouver Canucks fan hides in Mexico and preys on tourists would have been better than the story they threw together with the bloody croc and the guy forced to sign a confession.
If any of that is true, i mean.

Because they can't find him? They figure better to have his buddy in jail than no one?

If I were the Mexican authorities, I would have totally pinned it on either a)the husband or b)another tourist.
You want to save tourism? Don't arrest a national who was creeping out your resorts...go arrest the husband and say it isn't a "mexico" issue, just a domestic. I'd be more scared now that they openly admitted a Mexican national committed it.

I'm wondering why people would take some random chachi's facebook postings at evidence of anything.
I understand that there is corruption in Mexico, but it doesn't compare to the attention whoredom you find on facebook.

How is his post over the top? He says he doesn't want to support a corrupt nation by traveling there. As a frequent traveler who has been to Mexico many times, including 12 months ago, I've decided not to return.

Well congratulations Mike Munro for being the only civilian in the western world that has seen the surveillance footage and knows the true identity of the bad guy! Thousands of journalists and Mexican/Canadian officials are envious of his position I'm sure.
At this point, when I read Facebook posts like this, and hear other ramblings from people still talking about the case, I'm reminded of that Onion News Network video that pokes fun at 9/11 conspirators- We have the guilty party fully admitting he committed the crime, yet a bunch of bored suburbians, with no real insight on the case, are yelling "nuh uh, conspiracy!". Is is interesting how people conclude that because a society has had corrupt elements in the past, everything that takes place from there on, in that society, must be corrupt. I by no means have complete faith in the ability of Mexican officials to conduct a perfect investigation, but I think they have public/tourist safety foremost on their mind and genuinely want to correct the situation and prevent further occurrences. The guilty party and his lawyer are using fancy tricks, such as claiming a written confession was rushed, in order to lighten the sentence- they know they can't possibly deny the charges because the evidence is so damning, but they certainly can utilize other tactics in hopes of getting off a little easier. This is probably done millions of times in cases like this, but for some reason, we are eating it up and concluding that the Mexican officials are conspiring behind the scenes.
It may be that this other guy was associated with the guilty party, but Mexican officials would have jumped on the opportunity to implicate a non-Mexican if the evidence was there. It clearly was not.

I don't want to put forth the whole argument again, so all I'll say is to go read my 2 or 3 posts on why it is hypocritical.

This whole scenario got me thinking, what's up with security cameras?
We can take pictures of planets light years away and we can pick out the pores on peoples faces with our cell phone cameras but security cameras...still crappiest picture quality ever.
Not specific to this case but just some random thought that it made me think about.

I am still not convinced that they have the right guy here. I got the feeling that he is being pick as a fall guy here. Nobody knows exactly who attacked Sheila Nabb and I am not even sure if she recognize him because I am not sure if she is too drunk or not. I think she was too drunk because i cannot figure why in the heck she goes to the elevator naked. I hope she remembers who attacked her because I hate to see an innocent guy getting punish for something he didn't do just to please the public.
