Sadly I joined this forum mainly to respond to this thread. I ran a google search to weigh fan reaction to the addition of Bryn to the Fan960 team as I wondered if I was alone in my distaste.
I've listened to the FAN religiously at work for the better part of ten years. I've always enjoyed the on-air personalities even those that I disagree with. Richards had his moments (Kipper calls were classic) but had no problem's when he left for T.O. as I think the morning guy's that replaced him have done an an admirable job of holding down the fort.
Steinberg in my opinion is one of the least biased, well spoken and knowledgeable on-air personalities to hit the Fan and was more than deserving to take over for Kerr. Speaking of Kerr, I really enjoyed his time at the FAN and really wanted him to succeed at play by play but I find his delivery to be flat, much better suited for radio. Always enjoyed Loubo as both play by play and a contributor to the FAN.
That brings me to Bryn ... wow what a train wreck. I could care less about the perceived E-town bias however he comes across no better than your average caller to overtime ... and at least most of them have the excuse of a few too many.
As stated before, the tension between Bryn and Pat is clear. Can't blame Pat, I can't count how many "Did he really just say that", moments I've had listening to him. You can literally hear the face palm's and raised eyebrows over the air.
He's like that guy at the office that politely try's to be a part of the conversation when the topic of hockey comes up but really has nothing to add to the conversation other than the headline he read on the front of the Sun/Herald on the way to work.
Steinberg is pretty straight forward and doesn't rock the boat and I think it would be beneficial to have a more controversial co-host (like Francis .. but not Francis) to compliment him.
I can almost see Bryn doing a fist pump in the studio every time Steinberg begrudgingly tells him he has a decent point ... that long in the biz you shouldn't need validation.
He seems to have cred with a lot of guests as I'm sure he's a great guy but how he's lasted this long in broadcasting is beyond me.
Time for Bryn to go "Don't ya' think?".

You have, for the most part, put my exact thoughts and feelings into writing. From Richards, Kerr and steinberg, I couldnt agree more.
I am now used to Warrener's flat voice, and I love the banter between the three in the morning. Absolutely love boomers sarcastic wit.
Love the "Don't ya think" quote. Bryn is just awful. He can't carry a point, fumbles with words, and lacks any insightful knowledge. Occasionally I now listen to music on my drive home.

I agree as well. I usually tune in to the Fan in the afternoon whenever there is a Flames trade without any hesitation as Kerr would have lots to say and the guests that he brings on would add more to the discussion. However, when the Morrison trade went down I actually hesitated. I asked myself, do I want to listen to Bryn talk about the trade? I actually cringed and ended up just listening to CBC news and caught up on the trade on CP when I got home.

He has forgot more about hockey than you will ever know my friend. Perhaps you should walk a mile in his shoes sometime. Then again how would you know.

Just because he's on the radio doesn't make that true. He might know more than people, but he sounds like an absolute idiot on air. Adds nothing and I'm always shaking my head at the dumb stuff he says. Sounds like I'm listening to a stereotypical girl who is trying so hard to talk about hockey, but really can't add anything to the conversation.
You realize he was sitting next to Matt Stajan when he said that right? Stajan was being interviewed and that was the preamble.
Sure i realize that. Instead of Making Matt Failure sound like Sidney Crosby.
Show some damn accuracy.
I am sitting here with Matt Stajan. Matt the season hasn't gone as planned for you, but now that your back from injury. It must feel great to back on the ice with the guys.
Matt bla bla bla
How do you see the last 30 games going for you. It seemed like you were starting to get into a bit of grove?
Matt bla bla bla.
Ok Matt this has been great from one Hockey Pylon to another. Now get lost go blow your money. Oh btw Matt hit the gym you lose the puck in the corner like my dad does his keys.
I've said my piece on Bryn, but I just wanted to add this for any Fan higher-ups that may be reading - get some better guests on!
I realize bringing on TSN people isn't going to happen - but try bringing on some more experts! Not a fan of Elliott, but I'm happy to listen to his commentary because he is an 'insider' and knows his stuff (despite his arrogance he's shown in other places). There needs to be more people like that. It seems every time I tune in there's a Hitman or UFC guy on talking about things that I don't care about. Hockey is #1 in this city - let your guests reflect that. I listen to the Fan590 a lot - bring some of their guests on! Or maybe just simulcast their programming...Leafs talk by interesting, knowledgeable people is sadly better than what's been going on on the Fan 960 lately.
I thought perhaps Bryn just needed some time to fit in with the Calgary crew but I'm not seeing any improvement in his comfort level. He is a nice guy but frankly, its not working. He's trying, but his disingenuous gushing about everything Calgary is empty and hollow. He knows sports, I've heard it when he was in Edmonton, but his input on 960 all garnish and no substance. It's painful. I really hope he can turn it around but I'm not liking his chances.

Agreed. Elliot and Jeff Marek are OK, outside of that their reqular contributors are week. Mike Brophy is a complete joke.
boomer and warrener work in the moring, walker doesnt fit in, he is not entertaining and comes of as a smug p rick. boom and rhett can carry the morning. Bryn doesn't seem to have any sports knowledge at all especially since he was replacing kerr who has a wealth of knowledge or would research if needed. Pat is good in the afternoon he just needs some help. Also in my opinion the morning is trying to hard to be funny. Boom and Rhett can be but when it happens naturally. As most of you have said. when bryn comes on the radio goes off. i like 960 but they know there is no competition in town so they get have started mailing it it. They seemed to give a crap about fans before because they got everyones support but now they come off as a little jaded in my opinion and put themselves above the fans.

I disagree re: morning show. I think all 3 work together well now, and provide a nice combination of informed opinion and "entertainment". The afternoon, however...

Agree.

Walker adds the "friend you always make fun of" spot on the morning show. I like the 3 together but Brynn is starting to get to me, I can't even listen in the afternoons for long anymore. I'm starting to agree with those on the board who were cracking on Griffiths earlier. I tried to be patient and let him get used to the city and the team but his schtick is just really dated and he is really dry.
