Budweiser. A big american brewery trying to increase it's market share in Canada likely paid a boatload of cash to a marketing firm to come up with a strategy. The firm's response...

Canadians like hockey. Let's make Budweiser a hockey-beer.

$$$

Are we that simple?

The masses are, sadly.

Yeah, it was awesome for both teams, but when a multi-million dollar company tries something so cheezy like this I think it's lame.

Wouldn't shock me if these were actors. It's a commercial and Budweiser doesn't give a crap about these two rec teams.

Weird. I found a Toronto Generals team that is in a mens league but they don't play Les amigos. I was able to find a summer team for Les Amigos in 2009 but nothing current. Maybe it was all staged. Every mens hockey league has a website now a days it has to be possible to track down if these teams are real.

Edit Found Les Amigos but they also don't play the Generals. At least we know there are teams in Ontario that have those names. Both are in division 1 leagues so it is possible they play each other on some other random league I can't find on google.

You might enjoy this, this, and maybe even this more then. Improv Everywhere was where I first saw this sort of thing, and I'm a sucker for it.

this inspires me to come up with a viral vid for my home brew for Nicker's X-mas Shinny game next year.

Obviously they don't really give a crap about these rec hockey teams or rec hockey teams in general, why can't you just enjoy it for what it is, a good piece of advertising.

Because I don't think it's good advertising. It's lame, and it deserves to be said.

I find this comment on youtube quite amusing;

"Most curious, six weeks later the commercial is ready and us "fans" still haven't been paid for the eight hour night."

I find this odd concidering you are on a hockey message board. Personally if I was on the ice and this happened how awesome would that be?

Whether staged or not it tugs at the emotions and got my attention.

Not only that, but it is basically a rip off of an only Improv Everywhere skit:

http://improveverywhere.com/2004/10/24/best-gig-ever/

Good commercial though.

If I was on the ice and Budweiser tried to use me as a tool to sell beer I'd make it clear I'd want nothing at all to do with them.

That's just me though.
