I don't know about 20 years from now people looking back at the rodeo with disgust, but in 200 years they will be.
People put pets in cramped car carriers all the time and haul them around. People may not put an elastic around a cats balls, but do we do sometimes painful things to them for our enjoyment? Of course people do!
This is likely where such people are charged with cruelty to animals offences (under various pieces of provincial legislation.)

I stand by my opinion that if you eat meat you don't get to pick and choose when animal rights matter (and yes, I eat a ton of meat).
I think that's going a bit far. I like my steaks but I'm not really cool with dog-fighting or poaching. I think a more apt comparison would be between the Stampede and bull-fighting.
The rodeo represents a bit of a crisis of conscious for me. I enjoy it and understand that it's part of our cultural heritage, but it does also seem unnecessary, cruel, and a tad barbaric.

I've been watching rodeo my whole life, I have never once seen a strap tied around an animal's balls. This is nothing but hyperbole put out by PETA and other animal welfare crazies who lack any knowledge of the subject. The flank strap goes across their stomach. It's not tied too tightly or they won't be able to kick, and the strap itself is made of nothing but cotton, so it does no harm.
Rodeo animals are VERY well taken care of. Stock contractors have sunk a TON of money into these animals. Mistreating them would be like buying a Maserati. But driving it in winter, storing it outside and never washing it. The accommodations these animals get compared to say a typical dairy farm cow are like staying at the Wynn compared to the Motel 6, especially at these big rodeos like the Stampede.

She actually visited the stampede last year (not like some of the nuts who stand on MacLeod Trail and cluck about something they've never witnessed first-hand). Her points are well calculated.

I would like to point out that most in the Animal Rights/Welfare community see Temple Grandin as someone who sold out her beliefs to the meat industry.
