Wait, that's a real book, and Hack was being serious?
I continue to be totally fascinated by Hack&Lube.
I have no idea why that is. I keep getting the feeling you were some guy I went to high school with but that makes no sense at all. I went to high school in Calgary with suneel and calf.
I always wonder what Captain Crunch's background is. He reminds me of all the over the top ex-military dudes I know but we have all the same cultural talking points.
The Nitpicker's Guide probably ruined Star Trek for me because all I can see are mistakes when I watch it now. It probably ruined all TV for me in general because I watch everything with that nitpicking eye now.
I'd love to see Picard stand up on stage and recreate this
One of Lalla Ward's stories (the wife of Richard Dawkins and one-time Dr. Who actress) is that in the 80s, Patrick Stewart came up to her and asked her why she does all this "science fiction nonsense" and that she should be doing "real" acting and theatre.
Yes but didn't they use a shapped negative Ion based inverse anti-tacyhyon beam that was pwered by the port nacelle through the secondary deflector dish on a rotating frequency?
That's true. I've seen some convention clips where Brent Spiner shows up in the audience for no reason at all and starts heckling other cast members for a laugh. I saw Stewart on a BBC talk show the other day and he said the best thing he got out of it was "family" meaning his group of friends and they also taught him how to have fun because apparently, he didn't know how to have fun as an actor prior to that. Maybe that's why all his hair fell out.
Patrick Stewart kind of goes into that a bit in the Shatner documentary, "Captains". By the way, Avery Brooks is a little... wooo.. out there.
Yeah, Brooks is a bit kooky but it's that philosophizing, opinionated, and passionate personality he has as an actual person that really made Sisko more real than the cardboard Mulgrew or Bakula characters.
As someone who has gone to the expo every year since its inception, I feel I have a right to complain at the growing crowds and increasingly long lines now that being a geek is in vogue.
Yeah, he came across as a little bonkers in there. But the guy is brilliant and extremely talented.
His work in American History X was amazing.
Thinking about, it almost sounded like he was speaking in poetic verse all of the time. Which while interesting, you'd wonder if he just took a hit of LSD before the Shat stopped in.

He was the rare actor that really didn't need or use Star Trek to rebuild his career or get other roles.
He's a guy that was perfectly content with theatre and teaching and playing around with Jazz.
I remember in the first year of DS9 people hated him, but once he got rolling he became to me a better Captain then all but Shatner.
the episodes that he headlined in were just incredible standouts.
Pale Moonlight was so well acted by him.
I loved the baseball game episode as well, and the episode where he died and kept popping in and out of Jakes life was amazing, especially when he did the speech where he told his son to move on.
Oh and I forgot the episodes where he was the science fiction writer who went insane were incredible.
I had high hopes for Bakula but he was just so bland, and I hated Janeway enough that I hoped that they would murder her in her sleep.

No, wasn't in Calgary when I went to High School, and think I'm a handful of years older then you too. (I think)
I find your total love of everything from 1985-1994(?) odd and interesting. Your almost depressive outlook on anything outside that time is hilarious and fascinating to me. I can't explain it, but when you explain the pros and cons of a video game, an in depth review... then go on to say you might not play it for 10 years.. I sit back in awe and wonderment.
I wouldn't say 95%. And truth be told Q was only in like two really good episodes. Tapestry and All Good Things...
But in terms of 'praised' TNG eps, can we all agree that The Inner Light is overrated?
You're dead to me.

Since this thread has degraded into discussing TNG episodes, I will just say that I recently watched the whole series from beginning to end and I was disappointed at just how bad the series was as a whole.
Most of that impression stems from having seen 90%+ of the episodes before and you really get to see how formulaic the entire series is when you watch 3 or more episodes a day. I had the same experience with House. Loved watching it on TV, but watching it again on DVD over a short time period ruined it so badly that I can't even watch it anymore.

I've heard from a Trekkie that Spiner is always good at conventions, so that corroborates.
I don't think it's bad. I just don't think it's as good as it's praise. I mean in the TNG HD sampler The Inner Light is one of the episodes. I can name several more I would choose instead.
