it also seems like thier are ssome hygenists who have made a business out of making custom guards - you might try googling it, or having a look on the bulletian board of your local rink.

for a while i had the name of someone in the douglasdale area that made them, but i eventually chucked it.

also noticed that underarmour and reebok have models that are $75 and $50 respectively. Seems expensive for store models - but cheaper than a custom....

I'm not sure why you'd need a mouth guard if this is the case.

Yes, or he can actually take care of his teeth.

*Sigh*.

This is what I do as well. I find it helps a lot.

Somerset Dental Clinic made mine for $25 and it fits great as compared to the store bought ones.

I would also recommend her as a dentist, I went 9 years without seeing a dentist, primarily because I hated them all. But I now see her regularily for the last 5 years and have been really happy with them.

I go there as well, since I got married and Mrs Rathji was using her. A bit more expensive than my previous dentist, but a lot better I think as well.

Mouths are disgusting enough to look at if they are taken care of, but that photo almost made me throw my lunch onto my keyboard.

I bought a Shock Doctor one ($20?) from Sport Chek, molded it, and used it for one shift and stopped using it. Could barely breathe with it in.

Hmm, going to have to check out what my dentist offers and what my plan covers...

This.

Some dentists will do it for free because they want to help you protect your teeth.

Sounds like my wife has a horrible dentist. I was already leaning that way anyways.

They have taken about 6 molds of her teeth. Closer to 15 attempted molds because she doesn't do well with the goop in her mouth (insert tasteless joke here) when they are taking the mold. They have taken what they call 6 good copies of her teeth and every single mouth guard she has gotten falls off her teeth when she sleeps. They attempt to make minor changes at the office, but its not working. She grinds her teeth while sleeping and they insisted that spending $400 on this mouth guard is the way to go. I've been telling her to get her damn money back and go with the store bought sports ones. Our next step is to get a retainer. That is what she used for years prior to getting a #### ton of dental work done by these guys. Her old retainer no longer fits. She dropped close to 10 grand with this dentist so far and I was shocked they even wanted $400 for a damn mouth guard in the first place. Shouda been a toss in.

I hate dentists so much. Not cause I don't like having my mouth worked on, just the cost for the service they provide is beyond ######ed. I used to use this old school dentist who was dirt cheap. His offices was right out of the 80's. I can't use him anymore cause he kinda got lippy with my wife. I totally agreed with what he was saying, but had to stick by the wifes side Sucks to lose a good dentist cause your wife can be kind of a bitch, lol.

plus (what are we up to, 8?) +8 for the dentist made mouthgaurds.

I played rugby for 12 years and hockey for the last 18. Never had a problem with the dentist mouthgaurds, fits like a glove!

Maybe try trimming the inside back a bit so it feels smaller? Can't hurt to try on an old one if you have 100's of dollars worth lying around. If that works, I'd trim a new one before you shape it so there aren't any sharp edges.

One more for the denstist made mouthguards. We got them this year for the first time for my kids playing hockey (4 and 6 years old). They are the only ones on their teams that have mouthguards that stay in.

We had to hide my daughter's before the season started because she would wear it around the house all day.

I would suggest this.

I have a Shock Doctor mouth guard. I used it for one game and that was the end of it, just couldn't stand having it in.

It's great. It prevents dicks from getting in my mouth.

Protected from what? Direct impact of an object against a mouth guard is much lower risk than simply head contact or jaw contact, resulting in the teeth smashing together. Mouth Guards also cushion blows to the head reducing other injuries. A full face shield does nothing for these types of injuries, but used with the mouth guard they are really good, compared to nothing.

My dentist charged me $171 for a custom mouth guard, and my dental insurance covered it 100%. Ready in a week.
